Singer Ariana Grande began 2020 an engaged woman. Her significant other, realtor Dalton Gomez, has been in her life for a while now. But some feel that they rushed into getting engaged. Here’s how their relationship compares to some of her past ones.

In December 2020, Grande announced her engagement. She shared a series of photos on Instagram, writing, “forever n then some.” Many congratulated her publicly, including her mom, Joan Grande, who tweeted, “I am so excited to welcome Dalton Gomez into our family! Ariana, I love you and Dalton so much!!!! Here’s to happily ever after!”

But for all of those in support of the engagement, others think it happened too soon. “They’re very in love right now, but friends think the engagement was somewhat rushed and are skeptical that the relationship will ultimately be short lived,” an unnamed source told Entertainment Tonight.

They reportedly dated for nearly a year before their engagement

So when did Grande and Gomez get together? The singer has not confirmed this, but the first time they were spotted together was at a bar outside of Los Angeles in February 2020. Not long after, they began living together during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Grande confirmed their relationship in May 2020.

The artist’s dedicated fans (known as Arianators) are used to seeing her post frequent photos and Instagram Stories with her significant others, in addition to public appearances. While the pandemic prevented the latter, Grande made a conscious choice to keep her relationship with Gomez personal and private.

Only Grande’s relationship with Mac Miller was longer

Among Grande’s most high-profile relationships was hers with rapper Mac Miller. The pair became friends early in their careers after collaborating. They began dating in mid-2016, going public at the MTV Video Music Awards in August of that year. For the next year and a half, they were one of music’s most popular couples.

In May 2018, after a little less than two years together, Grande announced that she and Miller had parted ways. In her Instagram Story, she called him “one of my best friends in the whole world and favorite people on the planet,” adding, “I respect and adore him endlessly and am grateful to have him in my life in any form” (via Billboard).

Grande didn’t remain single for long. The same month she announced her split with Miller, the singer confirmed her relationship with Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson. In June 2018, the pair went public with their engagement, which also came on the heels of Davidson’s breakup with writer Cazzie David.

When it comes to engagements that might be considered rushed, it’s hard to find one that fits the bill better than Grande and Davidson’s. But this one was certainly short-lived. In October 2018, news of Grande and Davidson’s breakup made headlines. She later told Vogue their time together was “an amazing distraction.”
