Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver React Very Differently to Son Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Full-Frontal Nude Scene in ‘The White Lotus’
Drama and intrigue packed the premiere of The White Lotus season 3. One of the most fascinating characters introduced in episode 1 was Patrick Schwarzenegger’s Saxon Ratliff. Between his obsession with sex and weirdly incestual vibes, Saxon gave many viewers the creeps. Add a full-frontal nude scene in front of his brother Lochlan (Sam Nivola). We want to know what’s really going on with this fictional family.
Despite the creepiness, Patrick Schwarzenegger’s parents are proud of his casting in the HBO black comedy-drama, one of his biggest roles since he began acting in 2012. Dad Arnold Schwarzenegger and mom Maria Shriver are both happy for Patrick. But they did give hilariously different reactions to their son’s nude scene.

Patrick’s unsavory character, Saxon, is thoroughly enjoying his time in Thailand at The White Lotus. Surrounded by affluent guests, the young adult can’t help but leer at the beautiful women staying at the luxury resort. In addition to several sexual comments about his younger sister, Saxon insists Lochlan stay in his room with him. Then he inundates his brother with questions about porn and whether he’ll be able to “jerk off all week” with Lochlan in the room.
Enter a full-frontal nude scene as Saxon enters the bathroom to pleasure himself before bed. (Episode 2 also features Saxon sleeping nude, exposing his rear to his brother in the bed next to him.) How did Shriver feel about all of this? The journalist and author says she didn’t even notice her son from the waist down while watching episode 1. “My kids were like, ‘Did you see that?’ And I was like, ‘No. What?'” Shriver told PEOPLE at her Keep Memory Alive Gala in Las Vegas on February 22.
The Alzheimer’s awareness advocate continued, “So that shows you — a mother’s eyes are always on the kids’ eyes.” Shriver also explained how “happy” she was for Patrick. “He takes classes. He’s really been grinding at it for more than a decade. And he wanted to work his way up — and he’s done it his way.”
Patrick explained that he didn’t know about a nude scene until he got through auditions. “You don’t see the full script so you don’t have all the details. Then they ask you, ‘Are you comfortable with nudity?’ when you sign on,” he told The Sunday Times. “At the end of the day, this character, from start to finish, is ridiculous and the type of person who absolutely would walk around his room naked without a care in the world.”

Shriver attended the season 3 premiere of The White Lotus with Patrick and several of her children. The group included Patrick’s fiancée Abby Champion, her son Chris, her daughters Christina and Katherine, and Katherine’s husband of over five years, Chris Pratt. Arnold Schwarzenegger also walked the red carpet at the LA event. But he did so separately from the rest of the family.
After watching the premiere, the Predator star took to Instagram to share his thoughts on Patrick’s role. Arnold wrote, “I was so pumped to take a break from filming to celebrate @patrickschwarzenegger at the White Lotus Season 3 premiere. What a show! I could claim to be surprised to find out he has a nude scene, but what can I say – the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Don’t miss it this Sunday – trust me.”
The 77-year-old has filmed a handful of nude scenes himself. Arnold appeared completely naked in the opening scene of The Terminator when his character arrives from the future. Premiering in 1984, the movie’s viewers did not get a full-frontal eyeful. Rather, production shot the scene in a way that still showed everything but the front from the waist down. Arnold filmed a similar scene for Terminator 2. He also had a brief nude scene in the 1969 fantasy action comedy Hercules in New York.
