‘Atlanta’ Drops a Surprise Season 3 Trailer — Watch
The first teaser image from Atlanta Season 3 has arrived. The series first launched in 2016 and stars Donald Glover as Earnest “Earn” Marks, a struggling music manager trying to make his rapper cousin Paper Boi pop. The series made an immediate impact when it premiered and has since become one of the most popular shows on FX.
Unfortunately, there’s been a delay in bringing the show back to the air due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and Glover’s packed schedule. But fans can rejoice knowing it’s coming back soon. Read on to see the teaser trailer for Atlanta Season 3 and more about the next season of the show.
What happened in ‘Atlanta’ Season 2
The second season of Atlanta chronicled the growing strain between Earn and Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry). It started looking like Paper Boi was going to replace Earn in favor of someone more experienced and better equipped to manage him. But Earn proved himself worthy in the Atlanta Season 2 finale, when his quick thinking stopped them from being arrested on gun charges at an airport.
“I saw what you did at TSA,” Paper Boi told him on the plane, after seeing Earn stash the gun in another bag. “You ain’t gotta say sh**. Just know that’s exactly what I’m talking about. … You my family, Earn. You’re the only one who knows what I’m about. You give a f***. I need that.”
‘Atlanta’ 3 to explore the aftermath of that
Next season will seemingly follow the two on Paper Boi’s European tour, based on the fact that it was largely filmed overseas (via IndieWire). The teaser trailer, released by Glover on Halloween 2021, also features images of various places in Europe before showing Paper Boi sitting alone. “2022” appears in the final frame of the video.
As TVLine notes, Glover premiered the trailer on a website called Gilga, which seemingly only allows viewers to access its content between the hours of 8 P.M. and 3 A.M. ET. The clip is no longer there, at the time of this writing. But it was reposted on YouTube. Watch it below.
The same day, Glover also shared a now-deleted tweet teasing the next season. “I can’t wait til this show is out,” he reportedly wrote. “I watch the roughs like it ain’t my show.”
The “3005” artist, who also posted messages addressing comparisons to the FXX series Dave, previously said on Twitter that the next seasons of Atlanta would “be some of the best television ever made,” per Bustle. “‘Sopranos’ only ones who can touch us,” he added.
Season 4 is also in the works
Even better, the fourth season of Atlanta is also in the making. Actor Zazie Beetz, who plays Earn’s on-off girlfriend Van, made the revelation in an August appearance on Showtime’s Desus & Mero. At the time, filming had been in progress for a week, she said.
Of course, details on Atlanta Season 4 are limited. But we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop with updates.
