Attack on Titan Episode 82, dubbed “Sunset,” continues to show the aftermath of the Rumbling. It also returns to the Jaegerists’ takeover of Paradis Island’s military.

Following Eren’s big move, the Jaegerists threaten to kill anyone who opposes them. In fact, Floch makes a show of it in the latest installment.

And although several of Keith Shadis’ trainees vow to keep him safe, he accepts the grim fate in front of him. In a powerful moment, he tells them not to defy the Jaegerists. He also admits there’s no place for him in the new regime — and instead of running, he plans to face that fact head-on.

Fortunately, viewers haven’t had to bid farewell to Shadis just yet. However, his latest decision makes one wonder if he’ll make it to the end of the series. So, does he survive the Attack on Titan manga?

Does Keith Shadis die in Hajime Isayama’s manga series?

As viewers may suspect following his foreboding sentiment in Attack on Titan Episode 82, Keith Shadis does not survive Hajime Isayama’s manga series. However, he does take a meaningful stand before meeting his demise.

In the Attack on Titan manga, Shadis realizes the members of the 104th Cadet Corps are trying to prevent the Rumbling. As they attempt to steal a ship — fighting the Jaegerists for it at Paradis Island’s port — Shadis blows up a train to prevent more enemies from reaching them. He also destroys a boat containing the group’s supplies, meeting Commander Magath in the process.

Shadis and Magath both sacrifice their lives to stop the Jaegerists, setting off a bomb while they’re still inside the boat. The Attack on Titan manga gives them the chance to go out as heroes. However, their ending does raise questions about other longtime members of the military.

Will ‘Attack on Titan’ kill off its older generation?

Following Commander Pyxis’ fate — and knowing what’s coming for Keith Shadis — it seems Attack on Titan could kill off its older generation of characters before it concludes. The anime’s final season has focused heavily on Paradis Island’s regime change. And the Jaegerists seem committed to keeping their hold on the nation. They’re even willing to kill their former mentors.

That raises questions about what will happen to leaders like Levi and Hange if the main characters don’t find some way to secure peace. The latest episode revealed that the remaining leaders of the Scouts Regiment survived their trip down the river. Sadly, that doesn’t guarantee they’ll make it through the looming confrontation.

Those who have read the Attack on Titan manga know how things will play out. But even anime-only viewers can see how much trouble the seasoned members of the military are in. Hopefully, some of them will find a way out of it.

New episodes of Attack on Titan drop every Sunday on Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
