Attack on Titan spent three seasons focused on the members of the 104th Cadet Corps, but season 4 of the anime introduced several new characters into the mix. Among them were Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, two Warrior candidates from Marley who mirror Eren and Mikasa in a lot of ways. That includes their feelings for one another. But do Gabi and Falco end up together in the Attack on Titan manga?

[Warning: This article contains spoilers for Attack on Titan Episode 77 and the manga.]

Falco professed his love in ‘Attack on Titan’ Episode 77

Gabi and Falco have been through a lot since Attack on Titan first introduced them. Their home was attacked by Eren and the Survey Corps, they boarded an airship and ended up prisoners in Paradis Island, and Falco accidentally ingested wine spiked with Zeke’s spinal fluid.

That last development got the pair separated at the end of Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 1, but episode 77 saw them reunited. And while they hid from the soldiers and civilians responding to Marley’s invasion, the two had an honest discussion — one that ended with a profession of love from Falco.

Admittedly, Falco’s declaration of love was a highlight of the recent episode. But with his fate hinging on whether or not Zeke decides to take advantage of the wine situation, will he and Gabi actually get a happy ending? Fans can look to Attack on Titan‘s manga for that answer.

Those rooting for Gabi and Falco can officially rejoice. They’re among the few characters who actually get a happy ending in the Attack on Titan manga. Of course, they face plenty of obstacles getting there.

Zeke does, in fact, turn the majority of Paradis Island’s military into Pure Titans. And Falco gets caught in the crossfire. But through a series of unexpected events, he comes to inherit the Jaw Titan and maintain his humanity.

Falco’s not the only one to turn into a Titan before the manga comes to a close either. Just before Mikasa kills Eren and breaks Ymir’s curse, Gabi is among a number of characters who get turned. Fortunately, they’re all returned to normal once the curse is broken. It’s a close call nonetheless.

So, things aren’t completely uphill for Gabi and Falco. However, when Hajime Isayama’s story comes to a close, the two of them have grown up and remained together. In fact, they even find themselves caring for Levi Ackerman. That’s a found family unit we’d love a glimpse of. Perhaps the anime will give us a closer look.

Although Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2’s episode count raises questions about how accurate the ending will be to Hajime Isayama’s manga, Gabi and Falco are both headed down similar paths. The anime hasn’t diverged much from Isayama’s vision. And these two characters have hit every beat from the manga until now.

With that in mind, fans can celebrate that one pairing from Attack on Titan isn’t doomed to a tragic ending. Sadly, that’s more than we can say for Eren and Mikasa. The anime seems headed in the same direction for those two as well. At this point, it’s poised to directly adapt the source material.

Only time will tell if the adaptation makes any changes before the finale. New episodes of Attack on Titan Season 4 Part 2 drop every Sunday on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
