Aubrey Plaza Teases Her Character in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2
The White Lotus was one of the buzziest shows of Summer 2021. Now, fans of HBO’s comedy-drama are chomping at the bit for the sophomore season. Jennifer Coolidge, who gave a standout performance in Season 1, will reprise her role in the upcoming season. However, the cast of The White Lotus Season 2 also features other recognizable names like Aubrey Plaza and Theo James.

Of course, the cast isn’t the only thing that will make The White Lotus Season 2 a new experience for fans. The sophomore season is one episode longer than the first. Deadline announced that fans would have seven episodes to sink their teeth into this time around. Plaza’s season is also being shot in a dramatically different locale. While the first season was shot in Hawaii at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, the second is currently being filmed in Italy.
Where is ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2 being filmed?
The White Lotus Season 2 is being shot in Sicily at San Domenico Palace. The show has taken over the Four Seasons hotel, which was converted from a convent. With rooms starting at around $1,000 per night, the hotel is sure to deliver on the luxurious location that fans have come to expect from the show. Panoramic views and an infinity pool atop a cliff will make for a stunning playground for Plaza and the rest of the cast.
Aubrey Plaza gets candid about shooting the HBO show on location in Italy
In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Plaza explained how a new location will help The White Lotus Season 2 feel like a completely new experience for viewers. “It’s cool how the location informs the show,” the Parks and Recreation alum shared. “Sicily is such a culturally rich place. I mean, there’s a literal volcano that has erupted since we’ve been here. It’s a very charged environment. It’s going to feel like that.”
Who does Plaza play in ‘The White Lotus’ Season 2?
In the aforementioned interview, Plaza also revealed a bit more about her character. In the series, the Happiest Season star portrays Harper Spiller. Harper finds herself in Italy on vacation with her husband, Ethan, and another married couple, Cameron and Daphne Babcock. Most of Plaza’s scenes center around her little quartet. However, fans can look forward to a few moments where she and Coolidge share the screen.
“I do,” Plaza revealed when asked if she had any scenes with Coolidge in The White Lotus Season 2. “I do. I do. I believe I do. But most of my story is a separate story. I play a woman who’s married and we’re on vacation with another couple. Our story exists with our little foursome, but there are moments when some of the characters overlap, like in the first season.”

Plaza is certainly excited to be on location working on the show. She shared that the cast and crew had taken over the entire hotel and the energy on set is palpable. But before she could get into character, she had to figure out the hotel’s lighting. According to the actor, hotels have strange lighting, which she’s sensitive to.
“It’s always too bright,” Plaza admitted. “In fact, I bought two lamps in town today. I think the hotel thinks I’m insane. I probably could have asked them for a lamp. I’m basically setting up an apartment in here, just trying to create an atmosphere. I saged.”
