Audrey Roloff Shares the Emotional Story of Her Son’s Birth
Audrey Roloff and her husband Jacob Roloff started off the new year in a pretty exciting way. On Jan. 8, the Little People, Big World couple welcomed baby no. 2, a boy named Bode James Roloff. Now, Audrey is sharing the emotional story of her son’s birth.
Baby Bode arrived right on time
The Roloff’s first baby, a daughter named Ember, was born in 2017. She arrived 12 days after her due date, and this time around, Audrey was prepared to go past her due date again. But Baby Bode arrived right on time, much to her surprise.
“I just assumed he would come late because Ember was 12 days late🤷🏼♀️” she wrote on Instagram. “But since it was my due date there was a little bit of extra hopefulness that just maybe… 🙏🏻.”
On Jan. 8, Audrey went in for a 40-week doctor’s appointment. She was 3 cm dilated but not having contractions, so she went home, where she and her husband watched an episode of Peaky Blinders, as they recalled in their podcast. But a few hours later, she was having what she thought were Braxton Hicks contractions, or false labor, as well as some serious back pain.
“I went up stairs and put the last minute things in my hospital bag and change my clothes,” she wrote. “While upstairs the contractions turned into the kind where you have to stop and focus on breathing.”
Still, Audrey wasn’t convinced she was in labor. But it turns out it was the real deal.
“[A]t this point my contractions [were] about 3-4 min apart and painful enough for me to tell Jer, ‘I think Bode might be born on his due date,’” she wrote.
Audrey and Jeremy rushed to the hospital
Once Audrey realized she really was in labor, she and her husband rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, they got caught up in traffic.
“My labor with Ember was pretty fast, so we knew we wanted to air on the side of leaving sooner than later,” she shared. “We ended up leaving right after my mom arrived. Straight into rush hour traffic🙄 25 minutes of laboring in the truck while in stop and go traffic🤦🏼♀️ Jer may have run a few red lights🤫”
Upon arriving at the hospital, the couple didn’t have to wait long to meet their new baby. Bode was born about an hour after Audrey checked into the labor and delivery ward.
“We checked into labor and delivery at the hospital at 6:30 and I was 8 cm dialated🤯 … Bode was born at 7:36 sooooo from the time we got there, things happened fast!” she explained. The new baby weighed 9.2 lbs and was 21 inches long.
She shared some photos from Bode’s birth
Roloff also shared some intimate photos from her baby’s birth. “That feeling when you hold your baby for the first time😭” she wrote in a caption accompanying one of the images. “It’s unlike anything else… such an overwhelming rush of emotions. As Sheldon Vanauken would say, ‘A moment made eternity.’”
