Has August Alsina Been Blackballed From the Industry After Jada Pinkett Smith Entanglement?
Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines a few years ago after revealing her quiet affair with August Alsina during a red table talk with Will Smith. Recently, Alsina made a few cryptic comments that might imply he’s paying a hefty price for his and Pinkett Smith’s affair even years later.
What happened to August Alsina?
Alsina was once more known for his music than he was for any entanglements. Some of the Def Jam artist’s most recognizable hits might include tracks like the 2014 single “No Love” and the 2016 song “Do You Mind”. After his rise to stardom, Alsina met and networked with many artists in the music industry, including Pinkett Smith’s son Jaden. Alsina confided that it was Jaden who first introduced him to the Gotham star.
A romance later bloomed between Alsina and Pinkett Smith that was more than just a fling. The young singer was adamant that his relationship with Pinkett Smith was unlike any he’d had before.
“I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be OK with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody,” he said in a 2020 interview on Angela Yee.
He’d fallen for Pinkett Smith so hard that when the affair inevitably ended, Alsina found it difficult to recover.
“So much so that being intertwined in that way — walking away from it butchered me. I’m shakin’ right now because it almost killed me. Not almost; It did. It pushed me into being another person, my newer self. It broke me down,” he said.
Years later, Alsina’s presence in the music industry noticeably shrunk. Recently, he took to social media to give fans a disappointing update on his absence. Alsina revealed that he’d be walking away from music for good, although he hinted he wasn’t doing so entirely by his own power.
“One day it’ll be revealed the diabolical level of doxxing, railroading, stonewalling, roadblocking, gaslighting, and betrayal that goes on behind the scenes within this industry,” he wrote according to Jasmine Brand.
“Abuse of power, all in the name of up-keeping facades, promotion of lies and illusions,” he added. “While simultaneously hiding of hands to make it look as though you’re fighting an invisible boogey-man. In this industry there is no HR to report this kind of behavior to. BUT GOD has never slept on my prayers or report. Give.It.Time! In the other news, l’ve been building business and exploring new territory, successfully.”
Why August Alsina exposed his affair with Jada Pinkett Smith
Alsina was originally the one who exposed his relationship with the Matrix Reloaded star. But he asserted that he intended no ill will behind doing so. There were already rumors circulating that he and Pinkett Smith were more than just friends. He felt the more the gossip grew, the worse he looked. So, Alsina finally addressed the rumors head-on for the sake of his integrity and reputation.
“I never really cared about what people thought of me, but my personal life started to seep into my business life,” Alsina told People. “There were certain falsities about me, and it affected my business relationships. I could understand why it would look like I’m reckless or disrespectful so it really started to affect my livelihood, and I’m never okay with that. I got three kids to look after. Kill me, hate me, stone me, but bury me an honest man. All I can do is tell the truth.”
But Alsina went on to say that he harbored little regrets about the affair, despite the ensuing drama it caused.
“I’m always going to be in the driver’s seat of my life and control my narrative,” he said. “I can’t let anybody else do that for me… It was cool when people were able to use it as a mockery of me, like, ‘Oh, you’re an entanglement,. When I flipped it, it became a problem for people. Like, ‘Oh, you’re clout-chasing.’ I’m just doing business. It’s not personal.”
