It still feels like Avatar 2 is never coming out, but the release date is getting closer and closer. We recently received plenty of updates on James Cameron’s Avatar sequel from the Disney panel at CinemaCon 2022. Based on early footage that a lucky few were able to see, this sequel may be even grander than the first. One Avatar 2 actor now teases just how epic the sequel is.

‘Avatar 2’ will officially be called ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’

Avatar 2 has been endlessly delayed but it is finally coming out this holiday season. At CinemaCon 2022, the sequel received an official title of Avatar: The Way of Water. This aligns with what Cameron has been teasing which is some incredible underwater sequences. Part of the reason for the delay is that the director wanted to perfect the underwater motion-capture technology.

The story will follow the new family formed by Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his Na’vi mate Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Some of the new cast members for Avatar 2 include Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Michelle Yeoh, and Vin Diesel.

‘Avatar 2’ actor says it could be even more amazing than the original

One actor set to return is Giovanni Ribisi, who played Parker Selfridge, the Resources Development Administration’s corporate administrator for the unobtanium mining outfit on Pandora. While Ribisi wasn’t necessarily a villain, he was still a part of the human organization that violently attacked the Na’vi people to harvest their resources.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Ribisi confirmed his return to the Avatar franchise, while also saying that he is involved in Avatar 3, 4, and 5. During the interview, he shares his excitement for the sequel and teases what fans can expect to see in this long-awaited sequel.

“I’m so excited about the new Avatar films coming out,” Ribisi said. “2, I think is coming out this year, and then 3 is coming out the next year. And then we’re gonna do 4 and 5 after that. But yeah, it really takes what the first film was, and just takes it to a whole ‘nother level. What they did – and I’m sure there’s gonna be a lot of stories – is just as extraordinary as the first one.”

That’s high praise because the first Avatar is a revolutionary movie in terms of the technology used. Watching Avatar in IMAX 3-D was a movie must-do and it will probably be a similar case for the following films. Fans can expect to see the first teaser for Avatar 2 during Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The ‘Avatar’ sequels will all be standalone stories

What this means is that each film will have a narrative that will come to an emotional climax. However, he also said that by the time each movie has debuted, the Avatar films will tie into each other making for one extraordinary saga.

Avatar: The Way of Water will soar into theaters on Dec. 16, 2022.
