Awkwafina, also known as Nora Lum, is a beloved actress, comedian, and internet personality that first came onto the scene thanks to her viral rap song “My Vag,’ which was released in 2012. Since then, she has released two albums, acted in several movies and television shows, and has even hosted Saturday Night Live. Although fans often want to know more about her personal life, Awkwafina is notoriously private about most things, especially her dating life. So is she currently romantically connected to anyone?
Awkwafina prefers to keep her dating life private
Fans don’t get much information from the star about her dating life, though she did tell The Guardian that she had a long-term boyfriend back in 2018. Despite the rapid changes in the star’s life, she had found great comfort in the steadiness of her partner, stating, “I’m extremely happy. I’m in love,” but, “I’m not sure I will ever be the kind of woman who can retire into a family.”

She told Vogue that her date told the waiter they would share one steak, and he ordered it well done. She then detailed how he proceeded to cut up the stake into little baby pieces like one would for a bird, which she now sees as the first red flag. She states that her date’s, “hyper-intellectualism became, let me think of a word, boring. He talked about libertarianism, he would talk about how the Chinese market is where to go to put your money in. I don’t give a shit, you know, I was making $9 an hour at a vegan bodega.”
From there, the two went on a few more dates, and she felt herself putting on a different persona from her true self when she was around him. At least until she introduced him to her friends, a situation where she couldn’t help but be herself because her friends know the real her. At this gathering, she described him as a sourpuss, and the two eventually ghosted one another and never talked again.
She finished the story by stating, “I just enjoyed and realized that I’m enough, I’m worth it, and if you can’t get with that, then bye. If this really was dating, I’d much rather be at home alone, naked, watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, giving my cat a haircut.” It’s hilarious, it’s relatable, it’s the Awkwafina we know and love.
What’s next for Awkwafina, career-wise?
Awkwafina has been busy producing more content and being featured in a wide variety of projects recently, including the role of Mina in the film Breaking News in Yuba County, Nora in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, and Sisu in Raya and the Last Dragon. She has made a hugely successful transition from rapper to actress and comedian, and IMDb reports that she has several projects coming in the near future.
She plays Katy in the upcoming film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a thrilling action-adventure film from Marvel Studios that is set to be released on Sept. 3, 2021. Awkwafina will also be featured in the science-fiction drama movie Swan Song, playing the role of Kate. This project is also set to release in 2021, but there is not yet an official release date.
Further away on the horizon, fans can look forward to hearing her voice the character Scuttle in the live-action production of The Little Mermaid due for release in 2022.
