Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian’s engagement on Bachelor in Paradise Season 7 made history. They became the first Black couple to get engaged in the franchise. Sadly, their relationship ended once they left the beach.

“We have decided to go our separate ways, Riley and Maurissa told People. “Never did we imagine this, but we’ve come to a point where we both need to work on ourselves. We’ve appreciated everyone’s love and support so far throughout our journey and we just ask that you please respect our privacy as we navigate through this.”

So, why did they break up? StyleCaster notes Natasha Parker said on her Click Bait podcast that they had lifestyle differences. “I think that they just have very different lives, at least from my understanding from what she was saying,” Natasha said. “And she completely integrated into his life, and I think she that kind of missed, you know, her family, she missed her friends, and, the distance and everything. Moving to New York is not easy.”

Maurissa Gunn’s Instagram Stories suggest she dated a ‘narcissist’

A Reddit user captured Maurissa Gunn’s Instagram Stories in April 2022. The Bachelor in Paradise star copied over text that discussed being an empath. It also mentioned dating a “narcissist.”

“The unhealed empath starts feeling that they have a ‘once in a lifetime’ relationship with the narcissist, and the narcissist asserts it through his/her fake actions that look real,” the post reads. “Empaths stay with narcissists and start believing that their unfulfilled need to be loved is being fulfilled, even if the narcissist is pretending and not doing it.” The post then says the narcissist’s goal is to “establish control” and “induce deep attachment.”

So, is Maurissa referring to Riley Christian with this post? She didn’t give specifics, but the breakup certainly affected her. It also affected Riley. It’s uncertain if she’s referring to Riley in the post, but given the timeline, it’s possible.

“This has been one of the most difficult times of my life, but as with everything, I always do my best to move forward with hopeful and positive spirits,” Riley posted to Instagram on Feb. 17, 2022.

While Maurissa Gunn and Riley Christian seemed to have an amicable split after Bachelor in Paradise Season 7, fans are second-guessing Maurissa after her post. Many fans seem to think she’s in the wrong for the callout.

“Hot take: Not getting along with a partner does not make either of you toxic as humans, just toxic for one another,” a Reddit user stated. “Break up and learn from it and move on like everyone else ….”

“Sometimes, people just aren’t compatible or bring out the worst in each other, and that doesn’t mean either person is trash or anything, it just means you aren’t meant to be,” another fan wrote.

Other fans think Bachelor Nation should listen more to Maurissa, as there could be more to the story. We’ll have to wait and see how it unfolds and if she plans on heading back for Bachelor in Paradise Season 8.
