The cast brings their best beachwear to flirt on Bachelor in Paradise. Fans may notice that includes bikinis, swim shorts, and more.

They also might notice that the men accessorize more than usual by wearing weird necklaces. There is a secret reason for that. Here is everything to know about the wardrobe for the shows including why men wear those necklaces while in paradise.

Contestants have to bring their own clothes and jewelry to the show

Cast members pack their own clothes for The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise. Sometimes those clothes still don’t get approved to be worn for different reasons.

“You’re by yourself in a hotel room and you come with a dress and probably a backup dress,” Jaclyn Swartz from season 16 of The Bachelor told Fashionista. “The stylist Cary Fetman and a producer will come around to [your] room and they’ll approve the dress for the first night. That’s usually to make sure no two girls are wearing the same dress.”

What keeps a dress from being approved? “The only time they’ll come and tap you on the shoulder is if they’re noticing that it’s not working on camera,” the former contestant explained. “They would never be like, ‘Oh, that’s ugly. Take it off.’ They would say, ‘It’s just not translating well on camera. You should change, but that’s to benefit you.'”

There is one time contestants are given clothes and that’s for the finale. The two finalists get help from stylists to look perfect for their possible proposal or devastating breakup.

Another thing contestants don’t have to pay for is the Neil Lane ring. That is given to contestants to “borrow.” If the engagement doesn’t work out under two years, then they have to give it back.

Only the stars of the show are given clothes and jewelry

The stars of The Bachelorette and The Bachelor do get set up with clothing. The budget for clothing might surprise you.

Emily Maynard, who was the star of season 8, had the wardrobe budget of $350,000 according to PopSugar. Designer Randi Rahm also talked to People about sending clothing for Becca Kufrin’s season.

“We must’ve sent like 30 pieces, [per] request from stylist Cary Fetman, who is just delicious,” said Rahm. “They get like 3,000 to 4,000 pieces from people all over, and Cary goes through it. Then they bring in whoever the new bachelorette is and then that young lady gets to go through the garments herself and she actually — it’s very organic — picks her favorites pieces.”

The necklaces are microphones

Bachelor in Paradise also follows the rule of contestants bringing their clothes. However, there is one thing provided by producers for a specific reason.

The cast members are usually given microphones to wear that can be hidden under their clothing. However, people wear a lot less clothing in paradise, which makes things harder.

Men are often seen wearing tank tops or walking around shirtless. So the men are given woven necklaces that have microphones in them to pick up their voices. The necklaces come in different styles.

In the end, the wardrobe on the dating shows typically reflect people’s personal style because they bring their own clothing. However, the men accessorize more in paradise for a practical reason.
