‘The Bachelorette’: What Happened to Aaron Clancy and Cody Menk? The First Episode Confused Fans About Katie Thurston’s Contestants
On June 7, The Bachelorette Season 17 premiere kicked off without much drama between Katie Thurston’s cast members. Well, except for one brief moment that left many Bachelor Nation fans confused. Midway through the new Bachelorette episode, contestants Aaron Clancy and Cody Menk got into a bit of a fight. But the ABC reality series didn’t exactly explain the feud thoroughly. So here’s what Katie has to say about the Aaron and Cody beef and what’s next.
What happened to Aaron and Cody in ‘The Bachelorette’ premiere?
The Bachelorette drama between Aaron and Cody started abruptly in the season 17 premiere. Many cast members were concerned about time with Katie. Then the show jumped right into a spat between Aaron and Cody.
“I don’t like you, bro,” Aaron said. “Like, I’ve never liked you, and that’s fine. We don’t have to talk at all. It’s not my fault I don’t like you, bro.”
Cody agreed they didn’t have to talk. Then he said, “Well you don’t like me, so that is your fault.”
Meanwhile, Aaron left the conversation and said he told Cody “exactly what’s up.” Cody also refuted Aaron’s claims. “Alright man, I don’t agree with anything that you said. I don’t think there was a need for that at all,” he said.
Later, Cody spoke with The Bachelorette producers in a confessional, claiming the altercation was completely out of nowhere. “I’m like, ‘What are you talking about, dude?’” he said. “What the hell?”
Finally, the two Bachelorette contestants returned to the group in uncomfortable silence. Aaron told everyone to “lighten up.” Then Tre Cooper responded in the best way.
“I want to keep my nose out of that,” Tre said. “None of the beef, I’m vegetarian.”
What Katie Thurston says about Aaron and Cody’s fight in ‘The Bachelorette’ Season 17
During The Bachelorette Season 17 premiere, Katie tweeted about the drama between Cody and Aaron. But ultimately, it seemed like she was just as confused as other Bachelor Nation fans watching from home.
“Learning there was drama between Cody and Aaron on the first night,” Katie wrote. “But why? #TheBachelorette”
Then when speaking with Ben Higgins and Ashley Iaconetti on the Almost Famous podcast, Katie confirmed she didn’t know Cody and Aaron even spoke on Limo night.
“Night one, I didn’t even know that Cody and Aaron spoke about their dislike for each other,” Katie said.
The new lead also teased whether the drama will come up in later episodes of The Bachelorette Season 17.
“I will say that’s just a little intro to their dynamic, for sure,” she said.

Reality Steve predicts how Aaron and Cody know each other and what’s next in ‘The Bachelorette’
It’s clear Bachelorette fans haven’t seen the last of Aaron and Cody in season 17. So how do the contestants know each other enough to dislike one another? Ahead of the premiere episode, Bachelor Nation spoiler guru Reality Steve teased the Aaron and Cody storyline.
“Aaron Clancy and Cody Menk both live in the San Diego area,” Reality Steve wrote. “I don’t know if they knew each other per se, but, they definitely at least knew of each other and ran in the same friend circle.”
He continued, “One early season storyline is that Aaron went to Katie and told her Cody was a party guy, not really there for her, Cody found out about this and confronted Aaron. I don’t think it got physical.”
So how does the Cody and Aaron drama end in The Bachelorette Season 17? According to Reality Steve, Katie will eventually eliminate both men.
“Cody ended up either getting eliminated in that moment or at the next rose ceremony,” Reality Steve wrote. “Aaron went home a couple one or two episodes later.”
