Some of the Below Deck crew spilled a little tea about what goes on behind-the-scenes during those confessional interviews. Daisy Kelliher and Alli Dore from Below Deck Sailing Yacht laughed about getting through the confessional interviews while hungover and trying to think of something clever to say. Plus, Colin Macrae shared that the crew also drank a lot of booze during the interviews – sometimes enough to make them stir the pot on the show.

Kelliher remembered producers asking probing questions about the rest of the cast. Dore recalled on the Pita Party podcast, “You feel like you have to be on to get those quick-witted moments,” she said. “One of my favorites was the sparkles drink.” Kelliher was asked to make a “magical” cocktail for the guests, which she called the “mermaid’s fart.”

“[Producer] Jill [Goslicky] was so great with me,” Kelliher said. “Because it took so long. And to get lines like that. Because they do feed them to you, to an extent because they need to get these quick-witted things. Which I’m not good at. That’s very Bravo. Very American. And I was like this is rubbish. They were like, ‘Well Daisy we need them.'”

Thankfully Kelliher was able to turn on the charm. “So to get a line like that, it took us so long,” she said. “But I had to do it my own way. Because it’s just not me. People will know it’s not me. So went an hour or two hours. I was like for f**ks’ sake. I was so tired. But was like it’s a drink with sparkles, and volcano smoked from the land of Narnia and a mermaid’s fart.” Gosliky’s response was that Kelliher’s comment was right on.

But later Kelliher was asked about J.L. Cerza Lanaux and Dani Soares‘ chlamydia scare. At this point, Kelliher was over it. “I can see that I’m not getting out of this and time soon,” she recalled during the interview. “So I was just like, ‘You don’t quit cuz your boyfriend’s penis hurts!’ And the whole room erupts and there are all these Caribbean guys who were like, ‘Oh man we need to watch this show!'”

Dore described sweating through her uniform during the interviews too. “I used to sit on that stool in pools of sweat,” she recalled. “When I’m in front of the camera and got all those lights on you. You are just sitting there in this stank room for that many hours as well.” She described the room as an “interrogation room” and she’d be “pouring out sweat” during her interviews.

Colin Macrae spilled too much tea after having too many beers

Macrae revealed that producers encouraged the Below Deck crew to have a few cocktails during crew interviews. But he took that offer to the next level. “They encourage you to drink,” he said on the Altered Reality podcast. “It loosens up your nerves and they get more juice out of you. So that particular morning, it was like our second to the last interview. They wanted the juice. So I went in there and I smashed like 10 beers. I was f**ked up.”

“Then I went back to the boat, hammered drunk,” he recalled. “I was like walking past the laundry. And Daisy’s standing there doing some laundry. And it just slipped out of my mouth.” He gossiped about something first mate Gary King told him about Dore in confidence. Later Kelliher shared the information with Dore and it started a fight.

“As soon as I said it I was like …,” he said with a cringe. “I said to her, ‘Don’t tell Alli!’ And she was like, smoke coming out of her ears, angry. I was like f**k! What have I done? I said, ‘Hey, hey don’t tell Alli!’ And that f**king night she tells Alli and it kind of ruined our last dinner. I’m looking at them going, ‘Why are they f**king arguing on the last dinner?’”
