‘Below Deck’: Kate Chastain Says Chef Leon Poured Honey in Her Bed When She Was off the Boat
Despite saying she’d rather work with chef Leon Walker than chef Kevin Dobson, Kate Chastain from Below Deck recently revealed a prank Walker pulled on her when she was off the boat.
Bravo recently ran a Below Deck season 3 marathon, which prompted Chastain to share a memory she had of Walker. “Fun fact: Leon poured an entire jar of honey in my bed while I was off the boat during season 3,” she tweeted. Of course, the jokes rolled in immediately. “Shocked it wasn’t beef cheeks,” one person responded. Walker was known for constantly serving beef cheeks to guests.
Another person recalled how Dobson kicked sand in Chastain’s general direction. “Hmmmmm ….. brings new meaning to *sticky situation * but seriously – this is what people who can’t win a verbal argument do. Rather like kicking sand in someone’s face..”
Really? She’d rather work with Walker over Dobson?
Chastain told Andy Cohen she’d rather work with Walker if she had to choose between the two. “Honestly, Leon,” she said when she appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Her answer surprised Cohen. “Wow,” Cohen said. Why? “Because he didn’t speak much at all,” Chastain replied. “Which was better than Kevin speaking so much.”
Chastain went further with her reasoning. “I mean, Kevin is like a Pinterest recipe chef,” she said. “He says I don’t have foodie tastes, but he makes chicken parm.” Although she had no love for Dobson, the two seemed to come to an understanding and almost made up during the reunion. Almost.
During a Below Deck After Show Dobson had some pretty positive comments about Chastain. “Kate was really good in the situation,” Dobson recalled when the galley kitchen filled with smoke due to a broken fan. “She set up a fan on one of the benches and we just blew it straight out the door. Kate sorted me out then. Yeah, she’s always been sort of a trooper in those situations. And finds the funny side of things.”
Walker probably doesn’t have a positive comment to make about Chastain
Walker seemed to disappear from social media after he was fired. He also didn’t show up for the season 3 reunion. But the two warred on the show and on social media while he was still on the show.
“I don’t normally bite my tongue during heated confrontations, but with Leon it was different,” Chastain shared with Bravo. “First of all, he made it nearly impossible to get a word in with his constant aggressive interruptions. Secondly, after working with Leon for a few weeks, I just knew that any point I tried to make would fall on deaf ears. Trying to get Leon to calmly and rationally hear any viewpoint other than his own would be a waste of my breath.”
“It was very clear that Leon has a healthy temper and is comfortable crossing boundaries of respect,” she continued. “I don’t know how to explain it other than I was legitimately scared that if actually told Leon what I honestly thought about him, he would fly off the handle and do something we would both regret. If a rabid dog were to come at me, I wouldn’t go and agitate it further or say, ‘Hey buddy let’s talk our way through this.’ I’d just tiptoe away and hope that it didn’t attack me from behind. It was the same feeling with Leon. Civilized communication is a skill that some creatures simply are not capable of learning, unfortunately.”
