‘Below Deck Med’: Are Malia White and Tom Checketts Still Together?
Below Deck Med star Malia White had concerns about bringing her boyfriend Tom Checketts onboard The Wellington this season. She thought the experience might have a negative impact on their relationship, and it now appears that she might have been right to worry. Fans recently noticed that Malia and Tom no longer follow each other on Instagram. This has sparked concern that the couple is no longer together.
The ‘Below Deck Med’ star’s past relationships made her hesitant about working with Tom
After Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran left The Wellington on the August 3rd episode of Below Deck Med, Captain Sandy Yawn asked Tom to take over as chef. Malia later appeared on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. She explained that her past relationships prevented her from being “super psyched” about working with her current boyfriend.
“Having done the show once and having relationships on the show, I wasn’t too stoked to bring a guy that I’m pretty serious about on the show knowing how much can happen and the feedback we get,” said Malia. “No, it was not a nice decision for me.”
Malia told Andy that she and Tom were still together, but they were back a long-distance relationship. She said that she wants to be with Tom as long as she can. But, she’s “not a huge fan of marriage.”
Malia says it was ‘a nightmare’ working with Tom
As Monsters and Critics points out, it’s hard for fans to believe that Malia didn’t enjoy having her man on board The Wellington. In fact, many believe the bosun conspired with Captain Sandy to get rid of chef Kiko and replace him with Tom.
Malia insists that she didn’t have a plan, and says it was nothing more than timing. She explained on the Below Deck Med season 5 After Show that she wanted the season to be all about her.
“Tom coming on board as the chef was a nightmare. On a selfish level, I wanted this to be about me becoming bosun, and I think Tom coming on board, it’s now Malia and Tom. We’re like a team,” she said.
Malia made it clear that she and Tom were a team when she threw a fit over Hannah Ferrier refusing to bunk with Bugsy Drake. Malia wanted to share a cabin with Tom, and she ran to Captain Sandy to complain.
‘Below Deck Med’ fans suspect that Malia and Tom have called it quits
Not long after Malia told Andy Cohen that she and Tom were still together in a long distance relationship, Below Deck Med fans noticed that the couple was no longer following each other on social media.
To add fuel to the fire, Malia has started deleting recent photos of her and Tom from her Instagram account. Considering she used to cover her page with pics of the couple, her activity is making fans suspicious.
Malia is very familiar with what can happen to a relationship when it becomes part of a reality TV show. Fans still remember her love triangle with chef Adam Glick and bosun Wesley Walton.
She admitted that being in a relationship that is taking place in front of cameras is “tough.” It’s a “whole other dynamic” that she has to worry about. Fans will have to wait to find out if Malia and Tom’s relationship was able to survive the reality TV drama.
