‘Below Deck Med’: Captain Sandy Reveals Who Were Her Best Chefs (and Why It Isn’t Chef Adam)
Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean shared that chef Ben Robinson and chef Tom Checketts were her best chefs on the show. And despite working with chef Adam Glick for two seasons, she’s no longer a fan.
“Adam didn’t follow the preference sheet and put onions in the client’s food when he asked him not to,” Yawn tweeted in response to a fan question about Glick possibly being her favorite. “So no, he is not. Ben and Tom were the best on #BelowDeckMed.”
Glick purposely went against a guest’s preference sheet request. The guest asked for no onions in his dishes, but Glick added them anyway. When the guest complained, Glick lied to Yawn, saying he didn’t put onions in the food. He later fessed up, which shocked Yawn. She didn’t fire Glick and even gave him a season to redeem himself, which he did. But he later shaded Yawn when he joined Below Deck Sailing Yacht, further disappointing Yawn.
Chef Adam shaded Captain Sandy on ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’
Fans were initially thrilled to see that Glick returned as the crossover chef on Below Deck Sailing Yacht. But many were stunned when Glick made shady comments about Yawn not trusting him.
“So, it feels really good to work for someone that actually trusts the crew. I guess the big question is if he’ll be able to trust us all season,” Glick said in a confessional early on in season 1 about working for Captain Glenn Shephard.
When Glick later appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, he doubled down on his opinion. “The key difference is that Glenn really allowed me to excel,” he said. “You know, he just let me go. And he trusted me.”
Host Andy Cohen asked if Yawn held him back. He said, “Well no, but Sandy did question my abilities from time to time. Glenn never did and it will show.”
Fans were a little shocked because they thought Yawn and Glick had a good relationship. A fan tweeted the comment to Yawn during Glick’s Below Deck Sailing Yacht season. “Yep…was sad to hear that from Adam,” she replied. “He got 2 seasons on #BelowDeckMed, one of which was a redemption season. Hope he learned from his BDM experience and brought something special to #BelowDeckSailing. Thanks for your support of BDM!”
Chef Ben and Chef Tom liked working for Captain Sandy
Robinson and Checketts both joined the series mid-season. Robinson was the crossover chef between Below Deck and Below Deck Mediterranean but Yawn was not the captain on season 1.
Robinson had a totally opposite experience with Yawn. He felt that Captain Lee Rosbach from Below Deck was tougher on him. “Whereas I think Sandy, she was just overjoyed that she had a real chef on the boat now,” Robinson said to Bravo’s The Daily Dish podcast. “Gave me a lot of respect because she didn’t want to screw it up. But who knows if we were both to start fresh seasons together. But generally, the chef shouldn’t get too much stick from the captain unless you’re not doing a good job.”
While Checketts had few squabbles with Yawn, he appreciated her management style. “She has a different management style, that’s for sure, Checketts told Decider. “I’ve never worked with anybody like Sandy before. I have a lot of admiration for her. She’s a female captain, there’s not many of them out there. You’ve got to admire that. That shows a lot of dedication, I really like that.”
Adding, “She has got good experience, and she’s certainly good at managing a crew on the show, as you can see. It’s different, but it’s not necessarily a bad difference. It is just different.”
