‘Below Deck Med’ Reunion Previews Point To a Messy Hour of Television
Deckhand Alex Radcliffe described the Below Deck Mediterranean Season 5 reunion as a sh*tshow and it appears that he wasn’t kidding. Previews show confrontations and clashes over one of the most controversial seasons to date.
Chief stew Hannah Ferrier insisted that Captain Sandy Yawn came onto the show with preconceived notions about her. Ferrier said Yawn criticized her about forgetting what was in a dish during season 1. The guests ask Ferrier what was in a dish, but Ferrier struggles to recall the ingredients.
Another reunion preview showed Yawn accusing Ferrier of having marijuana on the boat. Ferrier previously tweeted she had a CBD pen with her, along with her unregistered prescription valium.
Captain Sandy says she ‘resets’ for every season
Yawn admitted viewing the scene from season 1 gave her a preconceived idea of Ferrier. “It was awful,” Yawn said during a reunion preview clip. “But to me, a chief stew, you should be able to pronounce the food and know what they’re serving.”
“But I forgot that part,” she continued. “I watched it, I had a preconceived idea. We discussed it and we moved on. Haven’t thought about that scene for years. Every time Hannah and I show up on a boat I reset.”
Indeed Yawn and Ferrier would often have conflict during the previous three seasons. But they would talk and seem to come together prior to the next season.
The crew said the reunion was tough
Radcliffe and third stew Jessica More said the reunion was intense. “An absolute sh**tshow,” Radcliffe exclaimed on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.
“It was just so much drama,” he continued. “Everyone just wanted to complain, talk s**t. I was just eating popcorn and drinking wine literally the whole time. So it was stressful to watch.” Radcliffe managed to stay out of the fray for the most part, which put him in a less stressful position than someone like More.
More agreed. “That was definitely the most intense group conversation I’ve ever had,” she said. More and deckhand Rob Westergaard had a passionate love connection that seemed to implode toward the end of the season. More shared that she had not spoken to Westergaard since they split last year until the reunion.
The 2 part reunion includes a shocking confession
Bravo teased that confessions and revelations will be made during the two-part reunion. “When Andy addresses Hannah’s dismissal and the challenges with maritime law, a startling confession from another crew member leaves the group shocked,” Bravo shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
The season kicked off with one dramatic incident after another. Second stew Lara Flumiani suddenly quit after the first charter. Flumiani stubbornly resisted instruction from Ferrier and it almost looked like the stews were going to come to blows. But then, chef Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran struggled in the galley. After one too many hiccups in the kitchen, Lorran was fired.
But the most dramatic turn this season was when bosun Malia White snapped a photo of Ferrier’s medication and sent it to Yawn. Yawn fired Ferrier. Meanwhile, White’s boyfriend joined the crew as chef, which quickly proved to be a combustible situation. More and Westergaard’s relationship began to crumble leaving the couple in tears during the season finale.
The first part of the Below Deck Mediterranean kicks off on Monday, Oct. 19 at 9/8c on Bravo.
