‘Below Deck Med’ Season 5 Finally Has a Launch Date!
Below Deck Mediterranean viewers have been anxiously awaiting a season 5 launch date, concerned they won’t see the new season until later this summer.
However, Bravo just announced the series will kick off soon and shared June 1 as the premiere date. Below Deck made the announcement on Instagram, but also Bravo confirmed the date with Showbiz Cheat Sheet.
The new season is already making “her-story” as this will be the first time the entire leadership team is led by all women. Malia White is the first female bosun. She was also featured as the lead deckhand during her first appearance on the show during season 2.
This season features the largest yacht to date on the series
Captain Sandy Yawn offered a sneak peek tour of The Wellington, which is the largest yacht to be used on Below Deck Med. The tastefully appointed interior is full-luxury and includes a whiskey and cigar room. “Everything is cigar themed,” Yawn shared during her virtual tour. “Obviously they spared no expense when it came to this.”
The yacht even has “two” master-type staterooms. “With mahogany, inlaid leather, and 1920s theme,” Yawn shared as she explored the master suite. “The sheets are Italian. One of these sheets costs about 2,000 euros.” That that equates to more than $2,200 (U.S. dollars).
But then she showed viewers the “VIP” room. “The cool thing about the VIP is it was once an observation lounge,” Yawn said, which shows the room is surrounded by windows. The bedroom also has a huge television set underneath the windows. “You can actually see yourself in it,” she says. Then jokes, “Some people may like that.”
The crew has some interesting backstories
Viewers will meet six brand new crew members, in addition to Yawn, White, and chief stew Hannah Ferrier. The all-male deck team includes a former professional model, a captain hopeful, and a party boy. “’Party Pete,’ turns to dance to burn off the stress of back-to-back charters. This licensed U.S Coast Guard is ready to bring the energy on deck this season,” according to deckhand Pete Hunziker’s bio.
Ferrier also is going to have her hands full with her interior team too. One stew is there to hopefully fall in love. But the other stew may want to take Ferrier’s job. “After jumping around as a stew for some time, she finally got her chance to thrive as Chief Stew on a small yacht,” according to stew Lara Flumiani‘s bio. “She does not hold back when confronting drama head-on and can be considered quite the hothead. She is not afraid to lose her cool if a fellow crew member fails to meet expectations.”
The chef is also a published author. Chef Hindrigo “Kiko” Lorran describes himself as a “rustic chef” who has traveled the world. He also authored The Surfer’s Cookbook in 2016, which is inspired by his love of surfing.
The series premiere date has to be a welcome surprise
Bravo announced Below Deck Med would return but only teased season 5 would premiere during “summer” 2020. A number of Bravo show premiere dates have been pushed back due to the pandemic. Both The Real Housewives of Potomac and Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles will debut at later dates.
A new season of Below Deck Med typically premieres in June, which makes this announcement a sweet surprise for fans.
