‘Below Deck Med’ Showrunner Was ‘Laughing So Hard’ During the ‘Spanx’ Fight
Below Deck Mediterranean executive producer Nadine Rajabi said she laughed so hard when Michelle Damon got into a verbal smackdown with a friend over whether or not she was wearing Spanx.
A casual comment from one of Damon’s friends that she was wearing Spanx turned dramatic. Damon was insulted her friend implied she was wearing Spanx. So she lifted her dress to show off her thong and prove she was not wearing the undergarment.
“I mean, come on,” Rajabi laughed during the Below Deck Med After Show. “I was laughing so hard. It was like one of those moments in your control room, you’re like, ‘Wait, did I hear that right? Are they actually fighting about Spanx?'”
The Damons are one of the producers’ favorites
“They let it all hang out,” Josh Brown, vice president of current production added. “And I’m not talking about Spanx. I’m talking about their feelings.” The Spanx fight didn’t last long. After the guest retreated to her cabin, she returned and apologized. Damon accepted and they hugged it out.
“You know, we saw Michelle get into it last season as well,” Brown recalled. Damon went after a man from a neighboring yacht who came on board Sirocco during season 4. The two argued about their home countries and the man had to be physically carried off of the boat. But Damon too had to be restrained. “They don’t hold back,” Brown added. Michelle Damon is married to professional baseball great, Johnny Damon.
“What I love about them is they’re very gracious people,” Rajabi said. “But they’re also very unapologetic and they are who they are. And they’ve been married for a long time, they have so many kids. I love their relationship that they can still be in love after this many years and having that many kids. They’re very gracious people and they’re very genuine people. They’re one of my favorites.”
Aesha Scott thought the fight was ‘so over the top’
Chief stew Christine “Bugsy” Drake and second stew Aesha Scott overheard the fight. “I think I remember just listening to their argument and I was like how is this even an argument,” Scott shared.
“Most normal people you wanna avoid drama at all costs,” Scott said. “And it’s like, so what if someone asks if you’re wearing Spanx? Like who f**king cares. Like, move on. Honestly, get over it. It’s so over the top.”
Other crew members didn’t realize the guests were fighting. “I’m surprised we missed that,” bosun Malia White shared. Chef Tom Checketts agreed and said normally you’d hear about a fight like that. “I’m surprised the deck boys weren’t talking about it, if it was a woman flashing her thong,” White laughed.
