In 2018, the year the exes finalized their divorce, Garner staged an intervention so Ben would have to go to rehab.
A source told The Sun in 2018 that Garner is “the only one his family could trust” to help him during his times of need.
“Ben’s family all knew something was wrong — his brother called him when he saw the pictures of him with the Playboy model — but Jennifer is the only one he listens to,” the source explained. “She’s the only one his family could trust to get him help, and he listens to her because she’s the mother of his kids.”
Ben’s relationship with Playboy model Shauna Sexton was short-lived. They were spotted together in August 2018 and reportedly broke up two months later. A source told People Garner wasn’t “happy” about Ben’s choice.
“Is she happy about him hanging out with a very young Playboy model? Certainly not,” the insider alleged. “But her concern right now is not who he is dating. What she ultimately cares about is his sobriety and whether she can rely on him to co-parent.”

Casey Affleck knows Jennifer Garner helped Ben Affleck immensely during and after their marriage. In 2019, Casey told Us Weekly that Garner served as “the perfect aunt” to his kids.
“Jennifer has been amazing,” the younger Affleck brother said. “She’s just the perfect aunt; she’s so caring and sensitive and never forgets a birthday. She’s awesome.”
Casey also seems to have a good relationship with Ben’s current wife, Jennifer Lopez. Lopez and the Affleck family go way back, as Lopez and Ben were first engaged in the early 2000s. They finally tied the knot in 2022. Casey posted to Instagram to welcome Lopez to the family and warn her to prepare for “dysfunction.”
“Good things are worth waiting for,” he captioned an Instagram post in August 2022, according to People. The post included a photo of Ben, Lopez, and himself walking in LA in August 2002. “Here is to twists and turns, new beginnings, and finding new reservoirs of old love. … Get ready for some real dysfunction! Kidding. I am kidding. Jen, you are a gem. We love you so much!!!”

However, an insider alleged that Garner had to step back from helping her ex-husband because it reminded her of their divorce.
“Jen eventually got to a place where she was like, ‘Sorry, figure this out yourself,’” the source told DailyMail.com in July 2024. “It was beginning to become too painful for her because it was bringing back so many memories of their divorce.”
