Barley Lightfoot (portrayed by Chris Pratt,) is loud and outgoing, while his brother, Ian (portrayed by Tom Holland,) is shy. In Disney and Pixar’s animated film, Onward, these elves embarked on a glorious quest to spend a day with their father.

Disney and Pixar’s ‘Onward’ premiered during 2020

Prior to the release of Soul, Disney and Pixar teamed up for the mystical and magical movie, Onward, featuring the voice acting of Holland and Pratt.

Just a few weeks following its theatrical release, this film premiered on Disney’s streaming service, giving subscribers the option to watch this animated release on any device.

It appeared on the platform alongside Pixar favorites like The Incredibles, Toy Story, and Monsters Inc., introducing fans to brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot from a magical Land of Yore.

The duo embarked on a “quest,” or just a super long errand, to spend one day with their late father. Barley and Ian met plenty of characters on their quest, leading the way to memorable quotes, some sad and others inspiring.

‘I am a mighty warrior!’

Barley and Ian might’ve gone on their quest, but when their mother discovers that they left, she follows them, going on a quest of her own.

Thankfully, her exercise videos and her “I am a mighty warrior” affirmation came in handy when her sons came face to face with a dragon-like creature.

‘He always thought that his wizard name would be Wilden the Whimsical’

Even though Ian wanted to meet his father, after reevaluating his list of things to do, he released he already did everything he wanted to — with his brother.

As a result, Ian let Barley have one last conversation with his father, which resulted in Barley learning his father’s wizard name and a big hug for Ian.

‘I hope there’s a little magic left in you’

Over time, some of the most magical things in this world were replaced with technology. Centaur’s stopped running. Sprites stopped flying. Wizards stopped learning spells.

Well, most of them did. Ian and Barley’s father, Wilden, believed there was enough magic lurking for his boys to bring him back.

‘My gut knows where to go. Don’t you, boy? Yes, you do.’

According to Ian, Barley didn’t always have the best instincts. Barley’s gut, however, begged to differ. It’s thanks to Barley’s knowledge that the brothers completed their quest and found the Phoenix gem that they needed, even if it meant coming face to face with a gelatinous cube.
