Better Call Saul has a lot left to uncover — from what happens to Kim Wexler to the fate of Saul Goodman. But it is indeed coming to an end. AMC’s hit series about the “criminal” attorney from Breaking Bad will conclude in 2021 after what will be six seasons on the air. Bob Odenkirk, who stars in the eponymous role, spoke about the series in an interview, teasing an “amazing” ending for fans of the show.

The actor promised an ‘amazing’ ending for ‘Better Call Saul’

Odenkirk spoke about Better Call Saul Season 6 in an interview with Empire. He was still shooting the show at the time of the conversation, which was published online in mid-February.

“I’m just trying not to get Covid, and show up and do a f****** great job with this awesome show, and this amazing ending,” he shared. Of the finale, Odenkirk said it is a “powerful, surprising, subtle, kind of low-key piece that’s been written with the greatest integrity by [co-creator] Peter Gould and the team of writers.”

There’s a lot of ground to cover this season, including bridging the gap between Jimmy McGill and Saul Goodman. Offering his thoughts on the two, Odenkirk explained: “I like Jimmy McGill. Saul Goodman is the kind of person I would avoid, pretty much at all costs, for a million reasons. Not the least is fashion sense.”

“Keeping those two people in the same body, and having them matter and connect up, can be a challenge for the writers and for me, but it’s been a great, great effort to try to make it work,” he continued. “I can’t wait for people to see this final season. There’s so many different places it goes, and there’s so much happening. It’s amazing.”

He described the series finale as a ‘challenging way to go’ out

While Odenkirk did not go into detail about the episode, he indicated to The New York Times that it includes some heavy material. “It’s a lot in there, a lot to think about,” he noted. “I think it’s a challenging way to go, to finish the series. It’s not flashy. It’s substantial, and on some level it’s things I hoped for, for years, in this character’s brain.”

“On the other hand, yeah, I have to read it again,” he continued. “But what I like about it is, it’s not cheap. It’s not easy. It doesn’t feel cartoonish. It’s pretty great, I think. It’s pretty great. I would wanna end with this kind of character-development focus. That’s what it’s about, instead of something that just has guns in it. I guess there’s a few guns, but they’re not like in other episodes.”

Asked whether there would be violence in the final season, producer and writer Thomas Schnauz told Den of Geek  there would be. He couldn’t say for sure that there would be more than in the past. But he felt it was possible considering it’s the end of the show.

“We’re coming to the end, so whatever happens will probably hit harder,” he noted.
