‘Better Call Saul’: Rhea Seehorn Addresses Kim Wexler’s Fate in Season 6

One of the biggest questions facing fans of 'Better Call Saul' is about what happens to Kim Wexler. Played by Rhea Seehorn, she's a lawyer starting to break bad just like her "criminal" attorney boyfriend Saul Goodman. But her fate is a mystery to even Seehorn, as she revealed in an interview.

The end is near for Better Call Saul. The AMC series will conclude with its upcoming sixth season, but there are some things that need to be addressed before it wraps. One of them is what happens to Kim Wexler, who’s noticeably absent from Breaking Bad, the show that inspired Better Call Saul. It’s a mystery to even Rhea Seehorn, who plays the beloved character.

Kim Wexler’s fate is a question the show will have to answer next season

Viewers have always wondered if something bad will happen to Kim since she’s missing in Breaking Bad. But concern has grown as her story plays out.

Kim started out as a serious, by-the-book lawyer working for a top law firm in New Mexico. Five seasons and a marriage to Saul Goodman later, she’s become a different person. That was never more clear than in the Better Call Saul Season 5 finale, when Kim pitched a plan to ruin Howard Hamlin in a blackmail scheme. It’s a moment that worried even Saul and has fans thinking something will go horribly wrong with that plan next season.

Rhea Seehorn talks ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6

Interviewing with The Daily Beast, Seehorn was asked about her role in the next season of Better Call Saul. The show is now filming in New Mexico, but Seehorn kept her comments on production to a minimum to avoid any possible spoilers.

“We have to be careful about even me saying that I’m in New Mexico, because people don’t know, does Kim survive? What happens to Kim?” she said, warily. “And by the way, I don’t actually know what happens to my character yet.”

“And just so you know, we have reshoots and we took a little pause after Bob’s heart attack,” she continued, referring to co-star Bob Odenkirk, who plays the titular character. “So even me being here now doesn’t actually tell you much about what happens to me or how many episodes I’m in. Because they jump back and forth in time. They do it all the time. That being said, I don’t actually know what happens to my character yet.”

But there are theories

One big theory is that Kim will die, furthered by executive producer Thomas Schnauz’s comments that there would be more “physical and emotional violence” in season 6. But not everyone is so sure.

Odenkirk himself told The Guardian he doesn’t think she’ll die, though he admitted that “anything could be the case.” Seehorn added in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the true tragedy in her eyes wouldn’t be Kim Wexler’s death, but the “erosion” of her character currently playing out.

“What’s fun for me is however she goes out, or stays, and that’s it’s own tragedy … like, if she lives unscathed but ends up being the cashier at the Hinky Dinky, which she’s said is the worst fate possible? Is that our happy ending?” she said. “Or like you’re saying, that she’s the head of the cartel … I don’t know. But I rest easy, knowing I’m going to have some of the most blissful challenges of my career getting there, and it’s going to be great.”

We’ll find out when the series returns. While the exact release date for Better Call Saul Season 6 is unclear, we know it’ll return sometime in 2022.
