There are still several weeks to go until Better Call Saul returns, but the trailer gave us plenty to speculate about in the meantime. Many fans have been hoping for the best for Saul Goodman and Kim Wexler, but if the Better Call Saul Season 6 trailer song is a sign, it doesn’t look very good for them.

The ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 trailer song could be a clue about what’s ahead

The trailer, released on March 10, shows some of what happened after Kim (Rhea Seehorn) approached Saul about conning Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian). Though he initially seemed to be against the idea, he and Kim appear to have decided to move forward with her plan.

The trailer is soundtracked by the song “Days of Wine and Roses” from a 1962 movie with the same name. Starring Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick, it’s a film that, in the words of IMDb, follows an alcoholic who “marries a young woman and systematically addicts her to booze so that they can share his ‘passion’ together.” But her drinking gets so out of control that he leaves her.

No, it’s not the same story that Kim and Saul have in Better Call Saul. But if you swap out the alcohol for conning, it sounds a lot similar. It’s also interesting that this film was used as a reference, knowing Kim and Saul have such a love for old movies.

The final season has been described as ‘devastating’

Unfortunately, the cast and crew of Better Call Saul have not said much about the upcoming season. But when they have, it hasn’t been all good.

Seehorn, in particular, told fans on Twitter once that it would be “devastating.” Though she did not elaborate, show producer and writer Thomas Schnauz teased to Den of Geek that there would be “more physical and emotional violence in season 6.”

While he couldn’t “swear that it’s any more than [the show] had before,” he noted it was possible given that it’s the final season.

“We’re coming to the end, so whatever happens will probably hit harder,” he continued.

A big theory is that Kim will die, especially because she’s missing from Breaking Bad. But Odenkirk has said that doesn’t necessarily mean she loses her life.

“In fact, there’s some version of life where Kim and Jimmy stay married and live a Mary Matalin and James Carville-type situation,” he told The Hollywood Reporter, laughing. “Kim would be a superpowered lawyer with the white-shoe law firm, and he would be the complete scumbag ambulance chaser across town. And at night, they go home, take off their disguises and be kind to each other.”

“I don’t think that’s where we’re going to go, but in real life, those weird and seemingly conflicting relationships can be very real,” he added. “They can happen. It’s probably easy to think that Kim dies, or that anyone who’s not visible passes away. But there’s still a lot of people who die on these shows; the stakes are high. But I’m with you in that anything could be the case.”
