Better Call Saul fans have been waiting for the next season for over a year. After facing a delay due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, filming was able to begin earlier in 2021. But of course, that update only made fans more anxious for the return of the show. When does Better Call Saul Season 6 end filming? It should only be a few months after that until it comes back to TV.

‘Better Call Saul’ has been filming its sixth and final season for months now

Better Call Saul officially entered production in March. Co-creator Peter Gould marked the occasion on his Twitter page, sharing a photo of Bob Odenkirk as Gene, the person Saul Goodman becomes at the end of Breaking Bad.

Now living in Nebraska as a Cinnabon manager, he’s taken on a totally new life. After five seasons on the run, an Alburquerque transplant recognized him in Better Call Saul Season 5, but rather than running away again, Gene intends to “fix” the problem this time himself.

In April, Odenkirk revealed on The Late Late Show With James Corden that one episode had been completed. But overall, he’s not fully aware of what happens to Saul, as he wants to keep it a surprise for himself.

“I do not know,” he told Esquire in an interview published in June when asked if he knows the final storyline. “I mean, come on. Why would I do that to myself? I’m going to be playing this character and we’re going to be shooting until November. And if I already knew what was happening, I would be depriving myself of so much excitement. I want for there to be a new thing every three weeks [when we’re filming] and to find fresh energy and excitement.”

But he’s heard the sixth season will be a wild one

Though Odenkirk isn’t sure of all the details, he previously told Collider he’s heard season 6 will be intense.

“I’m finding out script by script [how the season goes]. I’m told that the wheels come off in Season 6 and it explodes in a million directions. That sounds to me like there’s a fair amount of violence, but I don’t know for a fact,” he said.

His hope is that character will ultimately have somewhat of a good ending, but he’s not sure writers will go in that direction.

“We have a discussion where my point of view is that Walter White became an angry, broken version of himself. I wonder if it would be possible to write — because I like the guy — I wonder if it would be possible to give Jimmy McGill a better ending, a better place to end in than he started in. I don’t know if they’re going to do that though,” he continued.

Better Call Saul Season 6 does not have an official release date just yet. But if filming wraps in November, it seems possible that we could have new episodes as early as the first quarter of 2022.
