Betting on Paradise is the latest HGTV show that will have you planning your dream vacation. The new series, which premieres Jan. 7, follows couple Luke Shantz and Steph Sitt as they transform a crumbling hotel in a seaside community into a luxurious travel destination.
Luke and Steph face major challenges as they renovate their boutique hotel property in Jacó, Costa Rica, which they purchased sight unseen. From navigating the construction and renovation process in a foreign country to financial pressures to the discovery that some of the hotel’s rooms are completely beyond repair, the couple have their work cut out for them as they attempt to turn their dreams into reality.
“We’ve gambled everything on this hotel, and we’re all in,” said Luke. “We don’t have anything to fall back on at this point.”

So, did Luke and Steph complete their renovation? Spoiler alert: Yes. Hotel Amavi is up and running. The boutique hotel has been welcoming guests since spring 2024.

Pool rooms, which sleep up to four people, are $169 per night, as are garden rooms, which sleep two. Larger casita suites ($269 per night) are perfect for families, with amenities such as kitchens/kitchenettes and a private garden. A picture-perfect honeymoon suite ($269 per night) comes with a kitchenette and dining table, cozy lounge area, and open-concept bathroom. All guests enjoy perks such as a complimentary breakfast basket, natural organic toiletries, and coffee maker.

“Loved the decor of this hotel! Our room was super cute, the bar and pool were awesome and the staff was lovely!” wrote one reviewer.
