Betty White has been staying safe during coronavirus (COVID-19)
The former Mary Tyler Moore Show star has been, like many of us, adopting some form of social distancing since mid-March, when the coronavirus pandemic began to increase in intensity. And White’s fans have been wanting to know how their favorite star is doing.
A representative for White, in May 2020, told Today by email that the actor is doing well, thanks mostly to her upbeat attitude.
“No one permitted in except those who must,” the rep wrote the morning show. “Has helpers who are great with her.”
White’s spokesperson also noted that the former Hot in Cleveland star, an avid animal lover, has been enjoying the wildlife surrounding her home.
“Betty has beautiful backyard with a number of wild animals visiting,” her rep said. “Two ducks always come by to say hello. They waddle up to her glass door and look in. The animal community is watching over her. The virus is afraid of Betty!”
Alex Trebek wants Betty White as his successor on ‘Jeopardy!’
Jeopardy! game show host Alex Trebek’s contract with the show expires in 2022. Between now and then, guesses and outright requests of Trebek have been made as to who will replace him, and who he would like to see take over the hallowed podium.
Trebek, who just celebrated his eightieth birthday on July 22, points the finger toward the only person he feels could adequately fill his shoes.
“When people ask me who I’d like to see replace me, I say, ‘Well, it’s probably going to be a woman, and she’ll have to be bright, she’ll have to have a good sense of humor…’ Uhhh, let’s see… Betty White! Betty White is my choice,” Trebek said at a Television Critics Association tour in January 2020.
And Alex Trebek is Betty White’s celebrity crush
Not surprisingly, Betty White revealed that (one of) her celebrity crushes is none other than the Jeopardy! host himself, Alex Trebek.
In speaking of her love of game shows with The New York Post in 2018, the actor let slip her fondness for Trebek.
“I watch Jeopardy! First, it’s such a good game and second, I happen to have a huge crush on the host, Alex Trebek,” White admitted. “But I don’t watch much TV.”
Asked by the outlet if she considers herself a national icon, White modestly said, “My egomaniacal answer is — of course I’m the center of the storm! That’s a joke. I’m just grateful to be working and that starts at the beginning. When you start out you’re so grateful to have a job … and you carry that feeling through your whole career. At least I have.”
