Betty White has been living a full and productive life for longer than most people have been alive. But despite having done and seen almost everything in her more than 80-year career, there’s one thing the comedic actor still hasn’t gotten the chance to do in her life — and that’s meet her longtime celebrity crush.

Betty White’s celebrity crush

White has playfully flirted with a handful of famous men throughout her lengthy career.

However, one celebrity is the true object of the beloved actor’s affections, and it’s someone she’s had a major crush on for years.

In an interview with Larry King in 2012, White opened up about her longtime crush on actor Robert Redford.

Though they haven’t met, White is particularly fond of the Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid star. So much so that when Redford wrote her a letter and a funny poem to congratulate her on an award, White was over the moon.

“Just the fact he was enough aware of me to write me the poem… it made my day, my year, my life,” The Golden Girls actor said.

When King asked if she responded to Redford, White said she wrote the actor a note thanking him profusely. She also told him that she would try to stop using his name in vain because, according to her, “He might not appreciate or might think it’s silly that my answer to almost any question, whatever they asked me, is Robert Redford.”

Betty White has yet to meet her crush in person properly

Though she’s pretty smitten with Redford, White blew off the chance at meeting him a few years back.

While appearing on The Queen Latifah Show, White’s Hot in Cleveland co-star Wendi Malick revealed that she tried to get Redford on their show so that the legendary actor could finally meet her crush in person.

Malick even got Redford to record a video for White when she met him at a fundraiser gala, where he allegedly said, “Betty, what can I do? I call, I write, you don’t come. I’ve tried to see you.”

After that, Redford called White to invite her to the event and even left a voicemail. But the beloved actor, thinking it was a joke, deleted it.

Even if they were to meet, Betty White is convinced she would faint

Considering White’s career and longevity in Hollywood, we find it surprising that she hasn’t met Redford in person yet.

But despite not having gotten the chance to exchange pleasantries with her crush, White previously admitted that she prefers to keep it that way.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2016, White admitted that she doesn’t want to meet Redford in person because if she were to come face to face with him, she wouldn’t have the best reaction.

“Oh no!” she said. “If I ever met him, I would faint.”

Hopefully, for White’s 99th birthday, her dream of meeting Redford in person can finally come true. But if the meeting is ultimately going to make her faint, let’s hope she’s sitting down for it.
