Beyoncé and Britney Spears: Are These Two Pop Icons Friends?
It’s no secret that Beyoncé and Britney Spears are two of the best-selling female musicians of all time. Both rose to fame in the late ’90s and have continued to dominate the music charts with their catchy tracks and girl-power anthems.
Since they’re both icons in their own rights, we wonder, are Beyoncé and Britney Spears friends?
Beyoncé and Britney Spears rose to fame around the same time
In the late ’90s/ early 2000s, both Spears and Beyoncé were two of the biggest names in the music industry.
Beyoncé was the first to get her foot in the door as the lead singer of the girl group Destiny’s Child. Following the release of their debut self-titled album, Destiny’s Child went on to achieve mega success in the industry.
After landing three Grammy awards, several insane collaborations, millions of album sales, and topping the music charts, Destiny’s Child took a hiatus.
In late 2000, Beyoncé embarked on her solo career and recorded her first album, Dangerously in Love (2003), which debuted at the top of the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
Since the success of her first album, Beyoncé has continued to break records with her music, top the Billboard charts, sell out stadium tours, and grace the world with her superstar presence.
Like Beyoncé, Spears also rose to fame in the late ’90s after signing with Jive Records and releasing her debut album …Baby One More Time in 1999.
The record debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and was certified two-times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America after just a month. It even became the biggest-selling album ever by a teenage artist.
From there, Spears continued making hit after hit and has even collaborated on several tracks with some of the biggest names in music.
In 2013, the singer landed her very own residency in Las Vegas, where she performed a total of 100 shows throughout 2014 and 2015.
Though she embarked on a second Las Vegas residency in 2018, Spears canceled the show that same year after her father suffered a health emergency.
It was later announced that the singer would be taking an indefinite work hiatus to spend time with her family and focus on her mental health.
The singers worked together in the past
Though Beyoncé and Spears have collaborated with many fellow musicians throughout their careers, they’ve only worked with each other one time in the past.
The singers had the pleasure of working side by side in on their infamous Pepsi commercial back in 2004.
In the commercial, Beyoncé, Spears, and singer P!nk dressed up as gladiators who banded together to overturn the despotic rule of Enrique Iglesias while singing “We Will Rock You” in the middle of a Colosseum.
Though the song was popularized by men, the singers turned it into the ultimate girl-power anthem that many people still rock out to today.
Are Beyoncé and Britney Spears friends?
Though it’s unclear if Beyoncé and Spears consider each other friends, the “Toxic” singer revealed in 2017 that she’s always had a deep respect for the Queen Bey.
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Spears paid homage to pop icons Beyoncé and Madonna, who she considered her biggest inspirations, on Twitter. “Always fierce throughout their careers,” she wrote. “Thank you for being amazing.”
In April 2020, the Grammy winner shouted out the “Formation” singer on social media again when she revealed on Instagram that her self-love routine includes channeling her inner Bey.
“It’s getting more official each day ….. the bright enlightening patterns of self love. If you don’t believe me just look at what God is demonstrating for us to do each day for ourselves ….. self care and knowing our worth as individuals!!!!!!!” the pop star began her post. “Learning to love You sometimes is the hardest thing to do … and do you know how I show that???? By posting whatever the heck I want !!!!”
She continued, “If I want to post a picture with the same outfit three times … I will do so and take note from @Beyonce because I am FLAWLESS!!!!” Spears added. “But seriously …. keep your mean comments to yourselves.”
While none of that confirms if the pop icons are friends, it seems that Spears has always held Beyoncé to a high regard, and we’re sure the Queen Bey has done the same.
