Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had one of the most memorable celebrity weddings in history. Though things didn’t work out between them, their lavish nuptials are still the talk of the town.

The pair tied the knot on the grounds next to their European estate surrounding by close friends and family. While their wedding had everything from beautiful scenery to sweet moments with their children, there was actually one thing missing from Brangelina’s special day — a performance by music biggest power couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie tied the knot in August 2014

After nine years of dating, Pitt and Jolie exchanged vows on August 23, 2014, in a private ceremony in Château Miraval, France.

The pair had a nondenominational civil ceremony in front of 22 of their closest family members. While the affair was a lot more intimate than Pitt’s previous wedding to Jennifer Aniston, the nuptials were “loaded with meaning” as the couple’s six children Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh (now known as John), and twins Knox and Vivienne, all played special parts in the ceremony.

While Maddox gave Jolie away, Pax and Knox served as ring bearers. As for Zahara, John, and Vivienne, they tossed flowers they had picked from their garden that morning at Brad and Angelina as they walked down the aisle.

Though including their kids in the ceremony was sweet, the couple’s vows to each other were equally as heartwarming.

“Brad and Angie said handwritten vows telling each other how much they love each other and their beautiful family and they both had tears in their eyes, as did everyone else,” a source told E! News. “It was short but loaded with meaning, and it was a lovely way to start life in their new family home now that the building work is finally finished.”

After saying “I do,” guests were invited back to the couple’s French estate, where they were treated to a lavish feast.

“They all went back into the main house into the ‘Great Hall’ and had a big celebration lunch with local hams, cheeses, freshly caught sea bass, Italian pastas and champagne, as well as Chateau Miraval rosé wine [Pitt and Jolie’s own brand],” the insider shared with the outlet. “There were three different types of cakes, all picked by the kids—one was a strawberry ice cream one, another was a three chocolate gateau and a third had fresh cream and raspberries.”

“It was a lovely, happy day with lots of laughter and meaning that the entire family will remember for the rest of their lives,” the source added.

Pitt approached Bey and Jay to perform at his and Jolie’s wedding

Though Brangelina’s wedding day was all around memorable, there’s one thing that might have made it an even bigger night to remember — and that’s a performance by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

It turns out that before exchanging vows with Jolie, Pitt reportedly approached Bey and Jay — who had just wrapped their U.S. On The Run tour — to ask them to perform at his wedding.

“Brad told Bey and Jay, that their kids, especially Maddox – adore them,” a source told The Daily Star, via Evening Standard. “He told them it would make their big day extra special to have them both do a number.”

While Beyoncé and Jay-Z said they would try their best to carve out time to perform at the ceremony, they didn’t make any promises due to their busy work schedules.

“They were flattered and said they’d do their best to fit it into their hectic schedule, depending on the date,” the source added.

Seeing as those media outlets that shared the exclusive details on Pitt and Jolie’s wedding made no mention of Bey and Jay, it sounds like the couple had to miss out on being part of Brangelina’s special day. But despite the couple being a no show, Pitt and Jolie still had a wedding for the books!
