Beyoncé and Solange Knowles Disagree on This 1 Parenting Technique
The Knowles sisters—Beyoncé and Solange—are well known stars in entertainment. They are both in their 30s and have children of their own. However, despite being sisters, Beyoncé and Solange’s parenting styles are not exactly the same. In fact, it seems they disagree on this one parenting technique.
How many kids do Beyoncé and Solange Knowles have?
Solange is younger than Beyoncé by five years, but she got married and became a mom first. In 2004, she married Daniel Smith and gave birth to a son named Daniel Julez J. Smith Jr., whom is often just called Julez. Solange and Smith divorced in 2007.
Meanwhile, Beyoncé married rapper and music mogul Jay-Z in 2008. They have three children together: Blue Ivy (born 2012) and twins Rumi and Sir (born 2017).
Beyoncé and Solange seem to disagree on the topic of spanking
Beyoncé and Solange are quite private about their family life, but some information about their parenting styles have made its way to the public.
One thing that seems to be different about their parenting styles is the use of spanking as a form of discipline.
Solange shared in 2013 that she was okay with hitting her child if he acted out. She told Hot 97, “He’s around a lot of sweet, nice normal kids. And also around kids who get disciplined… If he gets completely out of line, I’ll try the three steps. The look and talk is one. Two is taking away something that’s of value to him. Three is… you need your butt popped.”
Solange also noted that she doesn’t “do it often, like twice or three times a year.”
Meanwhile, the sisters’ mom, Tina, told Us Weekly in 2019 that Beyoncé’s parenting arsenal does not include spanking.
“No spankings,” Tina said. “Just really talking to the kids and reasoning with them. I can say, [she] pretty much has my parenting!”
Do Beyoncé and Solange get along?
Sometimes siblings do not get along well, but the Knowles sisters seem to be quite close.
In fact, when they were young, Tina made sure the sisters did not have animosity towards each other. Beyoncé was on track to become a singer at a young age, so Tina decided to send them to therapy to help them have a good relationship.
“I took them to counseling so that, very early, the counselor could help Beyoncé be more sensitive to Solange,” Tina shared during a 2018 Facebook discussion with Maria Shriver. “She couldn’t stand her for a minute. You know, they were little, [Solange] was all in her stuff, trying to hang around her and her friends, and Beyoncé was really irritated, but it made her more sensitive to who her sister was and what she had to deal with because of her.”
Tina added, “My family was like, ‘you’re going to make them crazy because they’re too young for you to take them,’ but I wanted Beyoncé to be sensitive to the fact that Solange had to deal with being a little bit in her shadow. It made her way more sensitive and protected, and they’re still fiercely protective of each other.”
