Has Beyoncé Ever Hosted ‘Saturday Night Live’?
Beyoncé is a global music icon who became famous during the 1990s. The singer debuted her solo album in 2003 after spending several years as the lead singer of Destiny’s Child. The Grammy winner has appeared on multiple television shows as both an actor and performer through the years.
Recently, Maya Rudolph appeared on Saturday Night Live and gave an impression of Beyoncé. The comedienne’s appearance might have some fans wondering if the real Queen Bey has ever hosted SNL since becoming famous.
Maya Rudolph has impersonated Beyoncé several times on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Rudolph joined the SNL cast for the first time back in 2000. The daughter of Minnie Riperton left the show after seven seasons. Since 2012, Rudolph has returned to the late-night giant as a host and special guest. According to Variety, she earned an Emmy nomination for guest comedy actress. In 2020, she became a recurring character by playing vice president Kamala Harris.
On Saturday, March 27, 2021, Rudolph hosted SNL for the second time. The episode was the first since the comedy show went on hiatus in Feb. 2020. In addition to Rudolph, singer Jack Harlow appeared on SNL as a musical guest.
During one of her sketches, the Wine Country star joined SNL cast member Mikey Day to parody the popular YouTube show Hot Ones. The scene allowed Rudolph to bring out her Beyoncé impression. While dressed in a rendition of Bey’s 2021 Grammy Awards look, the comedienne impersonated the singer’s Texan accent. Additionally, Day gave a hilarious imitation of Hot Ones host Sean Evans.
Although Rudolph’s impression of Beyoncé received rave reviews, the singer didn’t respond to the skit publicly. However, the Grown-Ups star is familiar with mocking Blue Ivy’s mom. According to SNL’s Fandom page, Rudolph has portrayed Beyoncé on the show eight times.
Did Beyoncé ever host ‘SNL’?
Despite acting in movies such as Dreamgirls, Obsessed, and Cadillac Records, Beyoncé has never hosted an SNL episode. However, she appeared on the series as a musical guest four times. In 2001, the “Irreplaceable” artist performed on SNL for the first time with Destiny’s Child. Once she became a solo artist, Beyoncé returned to the show and sang hits including Dangerously in Love,” “If I Were a Boy,” and “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).”
During a 2008 musical appearance on SNL, Beyoncé agreed to act in a skit with host Justin Timberlake. In the routine, the singers reenacted Queen Bey’s “Single Ladies” video. The sketch brought the notoriously shy artist out of her shell. Beyoncé described how surprised she was by Timberlake’s comedic timing, per MTV.
“I just can’t believe how hilarious he is,” she said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “He showed up. He had his leotard and his pumps and his robe, and he opened it up, just letting it all hangout. I’m like, ‘OK, Justin …’ Why are his legs more beautiful than any woman’s?”
Who is hosting ‘SNL’ next?
Since returning from hiatus, SNL revealed its lineup for Spring 2021. According to TV Guide, actor Daniel Kaluuya will host the late-night show on Saturday, April 3, 2021. Kaluuya is best known for films such as Queen and Slim, Get Out, and Black Panther.
Additionally, singer St. Vincent will perform on SNL as a musical guest. Some of her popular songs include “Who,” “Rattlesnake,” and “The Apocalypse song.” On April 10, 2021, Carey Mulligan will host. The show’s musical guest is Kid Cudi.
