Beyoncé started her acting career doing guest roles in a few sitcoms before moving on to bigger projects. But she admitted that there was one acting gig she wouldn’t have minded her fans completely forgetting about.

Music may have been how Beyoncé became famous, but she was once also looking to expand her star-power through television and movies. Like many actors, she started doing small roles to build up her resume and test whether she’d be a good fit in the business. Beyoncé didn’t need to act to make her living thanks to her career success. But not needing to act only inspired her to improve her craft more.

“I think it’s very ambitious even for me to start acting, because I didn’t have to, I didn’t need to. I just wanted to challenge myself and learn and I admire people like Barbra Streisand and Diana Ross who took that risk and were really good at it,” she once said according to Black Film.

Every project counted when Beyoncé was climbing up the ranks in Hollywood. Even roles that she found a bit embarrassing led to greater career opportunities. One of those, which Beyonce didn’t want to mention, led her to starring in Steve Martin’s Pink Panther feature.

“Well, originally, I worked with the director years ago for a Disney sitcom and it was my first acting gig and I hope no one ever finds it,” she said.

But she regrettably blurted out The Famous Jett Jackson was the television series she hoped no one noticed her in. The season 3 episode Backstage Pass featured all three Destiny’s Child members, although Beyoncé had the most dialogue and screentime. She might’ve been embarrassed by one of her first forays into acting, but the connections she made for the episode eventually paid off. The episode’s director was confident that Beyoncé would become a movie star, and rung her up personally to offer her the Pink Panther role.

Although nothing would replace music for Beyoncé, there were certain advantages she felt doing movies had over making music. In her younger years, she imagined she’d gravitate more towards acting once she started a family. She felt the film industry offered a lot more stability than music did.

“Probably when I have kids and get married I’ll wanna lean more into acting just because of the stability and I want to do more movies. Every year I want to do a movie. I never wanna not put out an album but I feel like the movie industry is a lot easier; the scheduling … and the fact that you can have a bad movie and still recover,” she once said according to South Coast Today.

Additionally, Beyoncé would’ve liked to have the career that another popular singer and actor got to enjoy.

“As far as their longevity and as far as them being respected probably Barbra Streisand because I think she’s one of the best singers and I think she did an incredible job in all the movies she acted in and she’s had a long career. … I love and respect Halle [Berry],” she said.

She managed to carve out a respectable acting career for herself, although it seems music has remained a higher priority for the artist. The last feature she starred in was Mufasa: The Lion King, where she voiced Nala.
