The world lost it in April 2019 when Beyoncé released her Homecoming concert to Netflix. The program focuses on her historic Coachella 2018 performance and features behind-the-scenes footage along with the performance itself. It received unanimous praise from fans and critics alike and snagged multiple award nominations, including six Emmys nods.

Amid its release, it was reported that the film was part of a three-film deal Beyoncé had signed with the streaming giant for $60 million. We haven’t heard much about her forthcoming projects since then, which raises questions about what they are and when they’re coming out. Although details are limited, fans have floated a few ideas of what to possibly expect.

‘The Formation World Tour’

Over the years, Beyoncé has released tapings online from many of her tours — from The Dangerously in Love Tour (2003) to The Mrs. Carter World Tour (2013).

But one we haven’t gotten to see is The Formation World Tour, which coincided with her critically-acclaimed 2016 album, Lemonade. Debuting at the top spot on the Billboard 200, the album featured popular songs such as “Sorry,” “Hold Up” and “Formation.”

The tour went on from April to October 2016, selling more than 2 million tickets and grossing over $250 million, per Billboard. With a treadmill runway, acrobatic performers, and — of course — Beyoncé’s stellar vocals, fans are dying to get their eyes on the show.

Seeing that Netflix appears to be focusing more on music programming these days, it does seem possible that it could land on the platform. But when asked where the video was in a January 2020 cover story with ELLE, the singer suggested that there isn’t one.

“Years ago, I asked Prince to record my rehearsal with him for our Grammy performance,” she explained. “He said, ‘You don’t need to record that. You own that in your mind.’ Haaaaaaa! Prince always knew best! So, you can always watch the Formation World Tour in your mind; you own that! 🤪”

Sure, she could have just been playing it off. But then again, maybe she wasn’t.

A behind-the-scenes look at new music

Don’t get us wrong — Beyoncé hasn’t said anything about new music. For all we know, she could just be kicking back doing nothing with her husband and babies.

But considering that it’s been four years since her last studio album, fans are convinced that she’s recorded at least something and that she might give the world a glimpse at the album-making process some time down the line. We know that documentaries and visual albums have become a huge part of Bey’s brand, so it’s not a far-fetched idea. But who knows?

A personal documentary

Many would argue that Beyoncé is certainly in need of a do-over following her last documentary, Life Is But a Dream (2013), an autobiographical film that featured personal videos from the singer along with professional footage.

Being that Beyoncé is so private, the documentary was marketed as a look into her real world. But many critics wrote that she felt more painted and distant than ever. The Atlantic even ran the headline “Beyoncé’s Real Life Is a Self-Centered Nightmare.”

But while it might make sense to some for her to do another documentary, Beyoncé showed a lot of her personal life in Homecoming — from her life with her kids to her relationships at work. So it’s a bit hard to imagine that she would go there again.

Only time will tell what lands on the platform. In the meantime, watch Homecoming now on Netflix.
