Beyoncé Shows Support for Meghan Markle Following Bombshell Oprah Winfrey Interview
It appears that Serena Williams isn’t the only celebrity who has Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s back.
Following Meghan and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey, plenty of celebrities voiced their support for the couple, including the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé, who recently penned a sweet message to the “inspiring” Duchess of Sussex on her website.
Beyoncé praises Meghan Markle for her ‘courage and leadership’
On Mar. 7, Prince Harry and Meghan took part in a bombshell interview with Oprah, where they disclosed many details about their time as working members of the royal family.
Not only did the couple allege racist treatment from the British royal family, but Meghan also made the shocking revelation that she contemplated suicide while working as a senior royal.
“I just didn’t see a solution,” Meghan told Winfrey. “Look, I was really ashamed to have to say it at the time and ashamed to have to admit it to Harry especially, because I know how much loss he’s suffered, but I knew that if I didn’t say that I would do it … and I just didn’t ― I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought.”
Since the interview, many people — including celebrities — have been voicing their support for Prince Harry and Meghan.
Even Grammy-winning singer Beyoncé is backing the couple as she recently posted a sweet message to the Duchess of Sussex on her website.
“Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership,” Bey wrote. “We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”
Alongside the supportive message, The “Spirit” singer also shared a photo of her and Meghan at the U.K. premiere of Disney’s The Lion King in 2019.
Celebrities have been voicing their support for Meghan Markle since her interview with Oprah
Beyoncé may be the latest celebrity to show support for Meghan online, but she isn’t the only one of the Duchess of Sussex’s friends who have encouraged her this past week.
On Mar. 8, Meghan’s longtime friend Serena Williams defended her online, penning a powerful message of solidarity on Twitter.
“Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion,” Williams wrote. “She teaches me every day what it means to truly be noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced.”
She continued, “We must recognize our obligation to decry malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The mental health consequences of systematic oppression and victimization are devastation, isolating and all too often lethal.”
Since then, fans and fellow celebrities have been flooding social media with posts that voice their support and admiration for Prince Harry and Meghan.
While many have expressed their gratitude for the pair being open and honest during the interview, others continue to praise Meghan for her bravery and resilience.
