In addition to creating new Ivy Park X Adidas merchandise, Beyoncé partnered with King Richard to release the song “Be Alive.” This sports drama told the story of Venus and Serena Williams through the lens of their father, Richard Williams.
“Be Alive” debuted on most streaming platforms in 2021, earning over 5 million Spotify plays in the process. The release also earned praise from King Richard cast members, including actor Will Smith.
“The marriage of a movie and a song is a kind of magic that’s unmatched in entertainment,” Smith said during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I was so happy when Beyoncé called.”
Additionally, “Be Alive” is the song that earned Beyoncé her first Oscar Award nomination, with the official nominations announced in February 2022. That’s in the Best Original Song category.

Beyoncé’s “Be Alive” from King Richard has officially been nominated for Best Original Song at the 2022 Oscars. This is Beyoncé’s first-ever Academy Award nomination, with some members of the Beyhive sharing congratulatory messages with the artist.
Other songs nominated in this category include “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto, “Just Look Up” from Netflix’s original film Don’t Look Up, and No Time To Die’s title song by Billie Eilish. The award ceremony takes place on March 27, 2022.
Beyoncé only emphasizes her “Queen Bey” nickname regarding music-related award ceremonies. Counting her 28 GRAMMY wins and 79 nominations overall, Beyoncé is officially the most awarded and most nominated female artist in GRAMMY history.
Did Beyoncé earn an Oscar nomination for ‘The Lion King’?
In addition to her starring role as Nala in Disney’s photo-real adaptation of The Lion King, this actor created original songs for the 2019 release. She featured other artists on her Lion King-inspired album, The Lion King: The Gift.
Disney featured Beyoncé’s “Spirit” as a new song in the reimagined film. “Spirit,” featured on The Lion King: The Gift and The Lion King’s Soundtrack earned Beyoncé recognition at the Golden Globes and the Grammy’s.
The Golden Globe for Best Original Song went to “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman. “Spirit” earned nominations in the Grammy’s Best Song Written For Visual Media and Best Pop Solo Performance. However, Queen Bey did not take home the award in either category.
“Spirit” did not earn an Academy Award nomination at that year’s award ceremony. This track wouldn’t be the first time a Beyoncé song appeared on an official movie soundtrack. The artist released “Listen” in conjunction with 2006’s Dreamgirls. Beyoncé appeared as the character Deena Jones in the musical production.
