Beyoncé’s Mom, Tina Knowles, Defends ‘Liking’ a Social Media Post About Jay-Z’s Assault Allegations: ‘I’m Always Screwing Up’
Every time we go on social media, we’re overloaded with pictures, videos, and thoughts about the lives of people we know and don’t know. Sure, it’s easy to accidentally like or save a photo, video, or tweet, but in the case of Tina Knowles, some things just don’t go unnoticed.
Beyoncé’s mother was recently called out for liking a social media post having to do with Jay-Z’s sexual assault allegations, and now, she’s done her best to explain how it happened in the first place.
Tina Knowles recently liked a social media post about Jay-Z’s assault allegations
In late 2024, Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit alleging that he had sexually assaulted a then-13-year-old girl after the MTV Video Music Awards back in 2000. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has vehemently denied the claims and vowed to fight to clear his name. Tina Knowles, Jay-Z’s mother-in-law, “liked” a photo on social media announcing the allegations, and she later claimed she was hacked. She took to her own Instagram and said, “I was hacked! As you all know I do not play about my family.”
On a recent podcast appearance, though, she appeared to set the record straight and took responsibility for “screwing up” on social media. According to the New York Post, Knowles spoke on “The Run-Through With Vogue” podcast, where she joked that her age had something to do with liking the post.
“It’s so funny because you know how many times I’ve liked something that was negative about my own children?” Knowles said. “Because if I’m busy and I’m going through the thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so and so.’ I like that. And then the fans come back and say, ‘Miss Tina, please erase that because you’re liking some negative post.’”
Knowles then joked that “that’s what happens to 70-year-olds on social media.”
Jay-Z has denied any allegations of sexual assault
Jay-Z was quick to start the work on clearing his own name immediately after he was accused in the lawsuit. He released a statement through his company, Roc Nation, which in part read, “These allegations are so heinous in nature … I have no idea how you have come to be such a deplorable human,” referring to the attorney on the case, Tony Buzbee. He continued, “I’m more than prepared to deal with your type.”
The lawsuit stems from the arrest of Sean “Diddy” Combs back in late 2024, whom Jay-Z was often spotted hanging out with through the years. Diddy was arrested on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering and is currently awaiting trial in a New York City jail.
