Beyoncé’s Ex-Boyfriend Says Losing Her to Jay-Z Is Still His ‘Biggest Regret’
It’s hard to imagine anyone cheating on Beyoncé, but apparently, that was a mistake her ex-boyfriend, Lyndall Locke, made while they were together.
Before falling “Crazy In Love” with Jay-Z and becoming the powerhouse couple they’re known as today, the Queen Bey was in a relationship with her high school boyfriend, Locke. Though he claims to have been in love with the singer, Locke’s admitted to cheating on her and messing up the good thing they had going.
Although they broke up years ago, Locke still regrets his actions and believes that had he not been unfaithful to Beyoncé, he would be the one married to her today — not the rapper.
Lyndall Locke was Beyoncé’s first boyfriend
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have been together for so long, it’s hard to believe that they’ve dated other people in the past.
While Jay-Z had his fair share of romances back in the day, Beyoncé’s only had one other serious relationship, which was with her high school sweetheart, Lyndall Locke.
It turns out that Locke became the Grammy winner’s first boyfriend when they were barely 13 years old. Though she rarely opens up about her personal life, Bey herself recounting the relationship a few years ago during a 2008 interview with The Telegraph.
“People would be surprised as to the lack of experiences I’ve had. When I was 12, 13 I had my first boyfriend, and he was my boyfriend till I was 17. At that age, that was a long time,” she told the outlet. “I’ve always been very loyal and a little more mature. Though I was too young for it to really be a boyfriend — we didn’t live together, we didn’t, you know… That was my only experience with a guy, and since then I’ve only had one other boyfriend in my life — Jay.”
Lyndall Locke has opened up about his relationship with Beyoncé a few times
Though it’s been a while since we’ve heard him speak about his alleged 9-year relationship with Beyoncé, Locke has opened up about their romance many times in the past.
In 2013, Locke sat down with The Sun (via Madame Noire), where he discussed their relationship, his cheating ways, and losing the singer to Jay-Z.
During the interview, Locke recalled meeting Beyoncé through Kelly Rowland, sharing the exact moment he fell in love with her.
“She looked like an angel, the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen,” he said. “We’d hang out after school and almost every night we’d fall asleep talking to each other on the phone.”
He even reminisced about their first kiss, which he says happened after Bey’s 15th birthday during a Brian McKnight concert.
“We both just looked at each other realizing there was this incredible spark of fireworks between us,” Locke continued. “It was that fairytale kiss you only hear about in the movies. That was the first feeling of true love between me and Beyoncé. Still, to this day, I’ve never had another kiss as passionate as that one.”
Though they maintained a solid relationship for years, Locke admits that it became harder for him to remain faithful after the singer achieved her initial success with Destiny’s Child.
“The bigger star she became, the more I didn’t think I was good enough. One night, when she was out of town, I went to a bar with friends and ended up sleeping with another woman,” he said. “Over the course of a few years I cheated on her about five times, but I never told her until after we broke up.”
Lyndall Locke regrets letting Beyoncé slip away
After dating for nine years, Beyoncé and Locke called it quits in 2000. Shortly after parting ways, the singer met Jay-Z at MTV’s Spring Break in Cancún.
It wasn’t long before pair started dating, and Locke knew then that any chance of winning Beyoncé back was gone.
“Once she began dating Jay-Z, I knew we were doomed and I could never win her back,” he said.
He said that losing Beyoncé to the “99 Problems” rapper is his biggest regret to date, claiming that what they had was the real deal.
“Beyonce was the love of my life and I was hers, so losing her is still my biggest regret,” he told The Sun. “She would say to me all the time, ‘I’m afraid to ever live my life without you Lyndall, I want you to be mine forever.'”
He added, “Who cheats on a woman as beautiful as Beyoncé? Well, I am that man and it’s something that’ll always haunt me.”
Although Bey and Jay are happily married with three kids, Locke believes that he could’ve been in the rapper shoes had he not cheated. He’s also convinced that the singer “will always love him” no matter what.
“She will always love me,” he said. “I will always wonder ‘What if?’ and, given all we shared, I’m sure a part of her must feel the same way.”
