Beyoncé’s Mom Says Her Two Daughters Helped Her Through a Humiliating and Painful Divorce
Tina Knowles-Lawson is most famous as Beyoncé’s mom but the fierce Knowles matriarch is much more than a celebrity parent. Tina’s a successful businesswoman whose strength has been Beyoncé’s biggest inspiration. But Tina says Beyoncé, and her other daughter Solange, are the real role models. Tina became emotional in a new interview speaking of how her daughters’ kind words got her through a divorce.

Rumors of Matthew’s infidelity ran rampant during the later years of his marriage to Tina but the couple put on a united front. Both were instrumental in Beyoncé’s career, with Tina working as Beyoncé’s stylist and Matthew working as Beyoncé’s manager. But in 2009, the couple split after more than 30 years of marriage.
“The decision to end our marriage is an amicable one. We remain friends, parents, and business partners,”a statement from the former couple read at the time. “If anyone is expecting an ugly messy fight, they will be sadly disappointed. We ask for your respect of our privacy as we handle this matter.”
It later came out that Matthew had a son, Nixon, during his marriage to Tina. He also fathered a second child, a daughter Koi, a few years after the divorce was finalized.
Tina Knowles-Lawson says Beyoncé and Solange helped her process and move on from her divorce
Tina admits the divorce was difficult. In a new interview on the OWN virtual series Girlfriends Check-In, Tina says the her daughters sticky by her got her through the difficult time.
“When I went through my divorce I was devastated after 33 years of marriage. Not because I wanted to stay in the marriage but just because I was like ‘oh my God I failed at this and I am 59-years-old,” she sayd. “They [Beyoncé and Solange] came over and looked at old movies with me, we ate ice cream all night. They let me feel sorry for myself for a short period of time and then they were like momma ‘you’re a bad girl!’”

It took a few pep talks from her daughters to get Tina out of her depression but eventually, she began moving forward.
“[They told me] You’ve got so much going. You shouldn’t be feeling like life is over for you. God has something for you. It’s just funny how the roles change and they became my mom and I became the child. That’s the great thing about having women [as daughters]. I’m still their mother and I still want to be able to check them when I need to but they checked me so it’s a good thing,” she gushes.

Tina and Matthew remain friendly as co-parents to their adult children and they both have remarried.
Tina married actor Richard Lawson in 2015 in an all-white ceremony on a yacht. Two years prior, Matthew married Gena Charmaine Avery.
