[SPOILERS ALERT: This article reveals the second juror of Big Brother 23.]

Six-person alliance The Cookout planned to make it to the end by pairing up with someone outside of the group to avoid detection and control the votes. Although they realized it would be difficult to send home their “pawns,” they agreed they wouldn’t reveal the alliance during goodbye messages. However, Kyland Young hinted to the group in his last note to Derek Xiao.

Derek Xiao was evicted in a 5-2 vote

When Sarah Beth Steagall became Head of Household, she wanted to nominate people so others would use their BB Bucks on the available power, the Chopping Block Roulette.

Noting she didn’t care who went home and wanting to leave the option open for a backdoor, she followed the advice of her number one ally Kyland Young and repeated his nominations, Derek “Big D” Frazier and Claire Rehfuss.

As the only contestant to play for the power, Alyssa Lopez won but inadvertently replaced Big D with her closest ally, Xavier Prather, due to the twist. However, he didn’t stay there for long as he won the Power of Veto, removing himself from the block.

Sarah Beth took the opportunity to backdoor the biggest threat remaining in the game, Derek Xiao, after he opted not to play for the power. Even though Derek X. put up a good campaign, the majority alliance, The Cookout, decided he would join the jury next, and the fan-favorite was evicted in a 5-2 vote.

Kyland Young hinted to the Cookout in Derek X.’s goodbye message

During his exit interview with host Julie Chen Moonves, the newest juror watched his goodbye messages. His close allies Tiffany Mitchell and Hannah Chaddha noted how much they would miss him.

Additionally, Sarah Beth explained she had to make a move because she considered him the biggest threat socially and physically, and they weren’t working together.

Another associate, Kyland, who gave him a sympathy vote, admitted he had an alliance since the first week with a group of people who still have all their members in the house. Therefore, he encouraged Derek X. not to “feel foolish” because he genuinely likes him as a person.

Following the messages, the newest juror member wondered who Kyland hinted to, naming Xavier, Tiffany, Big D, and Alyssa, although he wasn’t sure about the latter’s involvement.

Claire Rehfuss and Derek X. previously named The Cookout members

When Derek X. won HOH during Week 5, Claire admitted she considered Xavier the biggest threat in the house because she can’t get a read on him, but he seems so protected.

She pointed out that she only sees him talking to The Cookout allies, Azah Awasum, Tiffany, Hannah, Big D, and Kyland, naming them all. Additionally, she noted he seemingly doesn’t speak with many houseguests outside of the group.

The following week, Claire told Derek X. she noticed that all the evicted players so far have been white. They laughed and wondered if there’s another alliance in the house.

Derek X. noted that he considered it “the best game,” if it’s true, as he didn’t see it coming. Although the two have hinted at it several times, they hadn’t put it together yet. Big Brother 23 airs Sundays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 8/7 Central on CBS.
