Ronald kidnaps Danielle, Grace, and Jerrie

The series is centered around the search for two missing sisters, Danielle (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Grace (Jade Pettyjohn), as well as Jerrie (Jesse James Keitel). They were all kidnapped by Ronald, a long-haul trucker working with a corrupt state trooper named Rick Legarski (John Carroll Lynch).

Danielle’s boyfriend gets his parents involved in the search, Jenny Hoyt (Katheryn Winnick) and Cody Hoyt (Ryan Phillippe), along with Cody’s private investigator partner, Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury). But Cody is shot and killed by Rick when he gets too close, and Jenny and Cassie are left searching for him as well.

Cassie is suspicious of Rick the entire time, and she catches up to him just as he’s moved Danielle, Grace, and Jerrie. She ends up shooting him in the head, although he survives and claims to have amnesia.

Danielle, Grace, and Jerrie are rescued and safe, but Ronald is still free. He’s worried about getting caught since his victims can identify him. Plus, he’s concerned about what Rick has on him that can lead back to him and the abductions. He dies his hair to look different, even changing the color of his truck and disposing of the license plate. He’s capable of anything, killing his mother, Helen, (Valerie Mahaffey), when she told him she was going to turn him in.

Ronald sees Erik (Evan Whitten), his paperboy, taking pictures of him after recognizing his face in the paper. So Ronald abducts him, forcing him to stay in a cage in the basement. But let’s add another crime to the list. He kills a priest who comes over looking for Helen soon after. But Erik at least gets some revenge when he gets a stun gun and staple gun, using the staple gun on Ronald.

There’s an explosion at Ronald’s house

In episode 9, the search for Erik is on. Based on information from his mother, it’s determined that he knows Rick’s accomplice. Cassie and others go out to ask Erik’s patrons if they’ve seen him. Cassie happens to go to Ronald’s house, and after speaking to him, she realizes he is the man they’re looking for based on seeing him previously. She alerts the authorities when she gets confirmation from Jerrie that he’s the man who abducted them.

Sheriff Tubb (Patrick Gallagher), along with Jennie and Cassie, head out near Ronald’s home. Tubb deputizes Jenny and Cassie, and they get bulletproof vests on. Law enforcement heads for the farm, and Tub announces over the megaphone, “Ronald Pergman, this is the Lewis and Clark Sheriff Department. Your house is surrounded. You are to come out the front door, hands above your head. Failure to do so, we are coming in. Exit the building now.”

But that doesn’t work, and they eventually break down the door and go in after a shotgun goes off, triggered by the breach, injuring some officers. Both Jenny and Cassie go inside, unsure about what awaits them. Jenny heads to the basement, searching for Erik. Cassie quickly realizes the house is wired to explode, and she smells gasoline. She tries to warn Jenny as the rest of the cops escape.

Jenny thinks she’s found Erik, who is cuffed to the floor. But it’s actually Ronald’s mother’s dead body. Based on the promo video for the episode, it was unclear if Jenny would get out alive. However, she barely makes it out of the house before it explodes, realizing it’s a dead body she rescued from the flames.

They don’t find Erik, at least not until they think Ronald is driving in a Tesla with Erik as a passenger. It turns out it’s really the dead priest with the car on autopilot. But Jenny and Cassie get in front of his car, forcing the vehicle to stop. They get Erik, who is for the most part physically unharmed. Ronald gets away, at least for now.
