Billie Eilish’s Brother Finneas Does a Hilariously Spot-On Elton John Impression
Elton John has been known to make friends and acquaintances with younger musicians, including famous names like Demi Lovato, Lil Nas X, Ed Sheeran, and more. Apparently, Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell (aka Finneas), are the latest singers to pal around with the iconic pianist. During a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, the sibling duo recalled a dinner at John’s house, complete with Finneas’ impression of the “Tiny Dancer” singer. Check out the video below.
Elton John has gushed over Billie Eilish and Finneas
John’s friendship with Eilish and Finneas doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The famous composer has publicly offered support to the young songwriters in the past few years. Speaking to Complex in 2019, John gushed about Eilish’s debut album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
“Her album was amazing,” he said. “She’s come a long way very quickly. She’s an incredible word-of-mouth artist. I can’t wait to see her live because she has something very special going on. Talent like hers doesn’t come along very often.”
Meanwhile, John also showed love for Finneas, who has a solo career in addition to his work as Eilish’s producer. He interviewed Finneas on his Beats 1 radio show, Elton John’s Rocket Hour, marveling at the artist’s success before the age of 25.
“You’re only 22. You’ve had an awful amount of success. I mean, I never was successful until I was 23. You’ve already had an enormous amount of success … your phone must keep ringing [with] people saying, ‘Can you do this?’… You’re probably the hottest producer around right now,” John said.
Billie Eilish and Finneas recalled a dinner at Elton John’s house on ‘The Howard Stern Show’
When Elton John asks someone to dinner at his house, the answer always has to be “yes.” That’s how Eilish and Finneas felt when they received a dinner invitation from the famous composer.
Speaking to Howard Stern, Eilish recalled her experience in John’s home, calling the house “huge and beautiful.” She and Finneas remembered their hilarious interaction with John’s assistant, named Bumble, prompting Finneas to demonstrate his impression of John.
“For lack of maybe the perfect word, he had a man-servant-butler-person named Bumble. Over the course of the evening, he would be in the middle of telling you a story and say, ‘I’m sorry, one second. Bumble!” Finneas said, pulling out his best Elton John voice. “This very sweet man would scurry in, head bowed, and Elton would go, ‘Can I have a cappuccino please?’… It was great.”
All impressions aside, Finneas and Eilish took a moment to praise John for his support and mentorship.
“He’s very smart. He gave really good advice and everything too — he’s cool,” Finneas added.
Billie Eilish and Finneas also discussed their music-making process and family values
In addition to talking about their dinner with John, Eilish and Finneas touched on topics like the Met Gala, Eilish’s coronavirus (COVID-19) case, and how porn affected Eilish’s mental health. The siblings also spoke about their songwriting process and Finneas’ efforts to put his sister first in the music world. Eilish said she never worried about Finneas trying to replicate her sound with other artists.
“I can’t go make her music with other people because she’s her music … If you took out the Billie ingredient, I couldn’t do that,” Finneas said. “Billie’s first always. Like, other people get Billie’s scraps.”
