Billie Eilish’s Instagram Following Grew By Millions in Just a Few Weeks
A new era of Billie Eilish has arrived and fans couldn’t be more excited. For months, the Grammy award-winning artist had been dropping hints about new music, but when she debuted her new blonde locks on Instagram, fans’ suspicions were confirmed. Those who follow the singer closely know that she typically switches up her hair color whenever she explores new levels of her artistry. But Eilish going blonde was just the tip of the iceberg when it came to switching up her style.
Eilish had already broken records on Instagram when she debuted her blonde hair, but she broke them once again when she posted her British Vogue cover. On the cover, the “bury a friend” singer gives a nod to pinup culture and wears a custom pink corset. This look is a far cry away from the oversized clothing that Eilish is famous for sporting. Fans seem to appreciate the new style and the photo received over 1 million likes in under six minutes. At the time of this article, the photo has achieved over 16.2 million likes, while another photo for the shoot has an astronomical 21.2 million likes.
Billie Eilish’s Instagram following continues to skyrocket
Though Eilish has had a loyal fan base for many years now, her Instagram following continues to grow at a staggering rate. On March 17, 2021, we reported that the Happier Than Ever artist had 77.9 million followers on Instagram. Today, May 6, 2021, the songwriter’s following has increased to 84.1 million, meaning her account has grown an incredible 6.2 million followers in just 8 weeks’ time.
Eilish seems to understand that having such a massive platform comes with responsibility. She isn’t shy about using her account to speak out about injustices in the world. However, it’s not always easy for the “ocean eyes” singer to navigate such a massive platform. She’s been candid over the years about just how negative social media can be for her.
The songwriter shared her negative experience with social media
“I stopped reading comments fully because it was ruining my life,” Eilish shared in a 2020 interview with BBC. “Once again. It’s weird, the cooler things you get to do are, the most people hate you. It’s crazy,” she added. Continuing on, she shared that she loved staying connected to her fans, but it just got to be too damaging to her mental health to see all the hateful things people were saying about her.
“It’s worse, it’s way worse than it’s ever been,” she shared about the negativity. “It’s insane that I’ve even been reading comments up until this point. I should have stopped long ago. The problem is that I’ve wanted to stay in touch with the fans and keep talking to them, but people have ruined that for me.”
Eilish seems to have a better handle on Instagram these days
We can see how negative Instagram comments could be detrimental for Eilish, especially given she’s only 19. Fortunately, the singer seems to have a healthier relationship with the app these days and we hope that she maintains that as her following continues to grow.
