Landman fans want answers, and series star Billy Bob Thornton hopes they get them.

The Taylor Sheridan drama came to an end on Jan. 12 with an episode that saw Thornton’s Tommy Norris make a surprising alliance with a dangerous character. How will that unlikely partnership play out for the oil company fixer turned boss? We’re not sure, but the Oscar winner hopes to find out.

Paramount+ has not yet revealed if Landman will be back for season 2. But Thornton is eager to explore the next chapter of Tommy’s story.

“I sure hope so, because I had a fun time on this one and it’d be a nice one to do,” he said about the possibility of a Landman Season 2 in an interview with EW ahead of the show’s premiere. “I mean, you’d kind of like to at least do a couple of something to get people used to it.”

If Landman is renewed, Thornton said he expects to begin shooting sometime in February.

“I understand that if we’re going to do that, season 2, that it’s going to be sometime around February, March, somewhere in there,” he said. “I mean, we’ll see. It just depends on how the chips may fall, you never know in this business. But if we do it, I think [we’re] going to try to do it around that.”

Will Andy Garcia be back for ‘Landman’ Season 2?

Landman’s season finale, “The Crumbs of Hope,” ended with Tommy on the brink of taking over as president of M-Tex following Monty’s (Jon Hamm) apparent death from a massive heart attack. But the real drama came when Tommy was kidnapped by members of the Mexican cartel, with whom he’s been tussling all season.

The vicious cartel members tortured Tommy to avenge the death of one of their own during a training drill on oil company land. Tommy looked like he might not make it out alive. But then, the cartel boss showed up. Galino — played by Oscar nominee Andy Garcia — executed his underlings. Then, he coerces Tommy into becoming his partner, intending to get the cartel involved in the oil business.

“The cartel and the oil industry are kind of these odd neighbors living side by side in West Texas,” Landman co-creator Christian Wallace explained to Variety. “Now Andy’s character is thinking he is going to make a change and utilize that proximity in a way that could benefit him.”

If there is a Landman Season 2, chances are we’ll see more of Garcia as Galino.

“If there is a second season, God willing,” Thornton told Deadline when asked if Garcia would play a bigger role in potential future episodes.

But when it comes to what’s next for Tommy and Galino, Thornton is as much in the dark as the show’s viewers.

“Taylor keeps it pretty close to the vest until it’s time,” he said. “OK. And when he knows it’s time, he’ll let me know. And when he lets me know, he really lets me know the whole thing.”
