Billy Crystal Says the Home He Lost in the Los Angeles Wildfires Was ‘Filled With Love’
Wildfires in Los Angeles have taken a toll on the entertainment industry. The fires, which broke out suddenly this week, are ravaging one of the city’s most affluent neighborhoods. One fire, currently burning in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, has claimed the homes of several celebrities and threatens the property of dozens more.
Billy Crystal safely evacuated his home, but his family must figure out their next moves from there. The house he and his wife, Janice Crystal, shared for over 40 years has been destroyed in the fires.
Billy Crystal opens up about the loss of his Pacific Palisades home
Billy Crystal and his wife, Janice Crystal, are reeling from the devastation of the raging wildfires in Los Angeles that claimed his home. Crystal spoke with People recently to share his thoughts on the fire and what he and his family had lost. He told the publication that the home was more than a house and that he and his wife had raised their family inside the Pacific Palisades abode.
The couple moved into the home in 1979 with their two children, then school-aged. Since then, Crystal said he and Janice raised their daughters and grandchildren inside the walls, filling them with memories. Crystal noted that every inch of their home was filled with love. They have owned the property for 46 years.
Crystal and his wife, a film producer, married in 1970 and welcomed two children together. Their daughter, Jennifer Crystal Foley, was born in 1973. They welcomed their second daughter, Lindsay Crystal, in 1977.
The Los Angeles wildfires have claimed thousands of structures
Billy Crystal is not the only star affected by the most recent outbreak of wildfires. Paris Hilton also revealed the wildfires destroyed her Malibu home. Hilton took the news to Instagram to share it. The former reality TV star said she was devastated by the loss but would work with non-profits to figure out how to help the community.
Various other stars live in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood and have evacuated amid the fires. Only a handful have learned their structures’ fate as of January 09. Further evacuations are possible.
According to ABC News, fire conditions are expected to continue as emergency personnel battle the blazes. It’s possible more homes and businesses will be lost to the fires. Additional fires throughout the region, changing winds, and low humidity complicate firefighters’ efforts.
