For fans of BLACKPINK, the wait for Rosé’s solo debut is almost over. On Jan. 25, Rosé of BLACKPINK shared a “Coming Soon” teaser trailer for her upcoming solo debut. The singer will perform her solo work for the first time during the K-pop group’s online concert “THE SHOW” on Jan. 31.
YG Entertainment confirmed Rosé’s solo debut
Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa debuted as the official members of BLACKPINK in 2016. Jennie went on to make her solo debut with the single “Solo” in 2018. On Dec. 30, 2020, YG Entertainment confirmed Rosé and Lisa’s solo debuts were officially in the works.
“Rosé and Lisa are preparing for their solo debuts. Currently, they are getting ready to film their music videos. As for Jisoo, she is busy shooting Snowdrop (tentative title), so Rosé and Lisa will make their solo debuts first,” the label said according to Soompi.
Rosé will perform a song during BLACKPINK’s online concert
On Jan. 25, YG Entertainment confirmed that filming for the lead single of Rosé’s debut album was completed.
“Rosé completed all filming for her solo album title track’s music video in mid-January. As the production budget for the video was unprecedented, the music video is a large-scale production, and we are currently doing our utmost in the final stages to ensure a high-quality release,” YG Entertainment said according to Soompi.
The label added that the song is “mellifluous, while also capturing the strengths of [Rosé’s] soulful vocals… It is a song that is completely different from BLACKPINK’s music to date.”
Soompi also reported that the label revealed the singer would perform the title track for the first time during BLACKPINK’s upcoming concert on YouTube. This decision was reportedly Rosé’s idea as she wanted to perform the song for BLINKs as soon as possible.
Rosé released a teaser for her upcoming solo work
A teaser trailer for Rosé’s solo debut was released on Jan. 25. In the teaser, Rosé lays on the bathroom floor with candles lit. She then throws a rose at the wall and curls up on the floor and cries. In the next scene, the singer is shown eating alone at a small table.
A voiceover of Rosé singing the lyrics, “All my love is gone / All my love is gone / Now you’re dead and gone,” is played as Rosé vacantly stares at the empty seat in front of her.
After the teaser was released, Soompi reported that the music featured in the trailer is not actually from the upcoming album’s lead single. Instead, YG Entertainment revealed the song “is Rosé’s upcoming sub-title track.”
“THE SHOW” will be livestreamed on Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. PST and Jan. 31 at 12 a.m. EST and at 2 p.m. KST. BLINKS can purchase tickets for the concert and watch the performance on BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel.
