BLACKPINK’s Rosé and Halsey Were Surprised They Were Talking Like Friends After Meeting for the First Time
Rosé from BLACKPINK grew up in Australia and currently lives in Korea. Halsey was born in New Jersey, currently residing in Los Angeles. When these two artists happened to be in Paris simultaneously, they were sure to meet up, cementing their fast friendship with several Instagram pictures.
Rosé (and the other BLACKPINK members) have several celebrity friends
As one of the world’s biggest girl groups, BLACKPINK has several celebrity friends, including Squid Game actor HoYeon Jung who befriended Jennie. This K-pop group even features other artists in their original songs.
Selena Gomez sang on “Ice Cream,” also appearing in the official music video for the song. As the self-proclaimed fifth member of BLACKPINK, Lady Gaga featured BLACKPINK on “Sour Candy” from her 2020 release Chromatica.
Rosé and Halsey met for the first time while in Paris
Although the BLACKPINK members often spend time together, they often branch off to work on solo projects, especially when it comes to their fashion partnerships. In between taking pictures and attending YSL shows, Rosé spent time in Paris with the “You Should Be Sad” singer, Halsey.
“Halsey contacted me suddenly,” Rosé said in Korean, according to a translation on BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky documentary. Jennie asked if the two met in France, and Rosé continued her story in English, “she was like, ‘are you in Paris?’ and I’m like, ‘don’t tell me you’re here.’ It was my first time meeting her.”
“I felt like it was my fifth time, and she said the same. Like, ‘was this our first time?’ I’m like, ‘yeah,'” Rosé continued. “She’s just like us. She just talks like us.”
Rosé and Halsey posted pictures to their respective Instagram accounts after the meetup. Complete with an Eiffel Tower pictures and a “La Vie En Rose”-inspired caption, Halsey earned over 2 million likes on her post.
These artists became fast friends. However, there’s no word regarding if, or when, a BLACKPINK x Halsey collaboration will premiere. Halsey does often collaborate with other chart-topping musicians. Recently, that included Suga of the K-pop group BTS for “Suga’s Interlude.”
Halsey is an unapologetic BLINK
Even before hanging out with Rosé, Halsey was a fan of BLACKPINK. In 2019, Halsey shared a video of herself jamming out to “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” with Rosé re-posting the clip on her own Instagram story. Halsey then took to Twitter, publicly professing her admiration for the K-pop group.
“Sorry if you got it twisted, but I’ve been a BLACKPINK fan for a long time, and I was watching their TGC performance to pump me up for mine today because theirs was so good,” Halsey tweeted.
According to BLACKPINK Update, Halsey also commented “you are super cute” in Korean on one of Rosé’s Instagram posts. After receiving some backlash as a non-Korean speaking person, Halsey clarified that she was just trying to be kind.
