A few things Blake Lively and Jennifer Lopez have in common are that they’re both big-name movie stars, who married fellow big-name actors, and have received a ton of backlash on social media.

There’s been a lot of chatter about Lively’s new film It End With Us, which has dominated the box office, and what went on behind-the-scenes with her co-star Justin Baldoni who is also the film’s director. The alleged friction between them has caused each to do their promotional tours separately.

Now, Lively has come under fire and the internet is calling it a downfall similar to what Lopez experienced.

Lively is having a ‘J.Lo moment’ and not in a good way

In March, Lively had a Mea culpa after she jumped on the Kate Middleton attack train and took a dig at the royal amid the Princess of Wales’ Photoshop controversy in order to promote her beverage line. The following week, Kate announced her cancer diagnosis and that she was undergoing preventive chemotherapy. Upon hearing that news, the Gossip Girl alum deleted her Instagram post and publicly apologized, saying: “That post has me mortified today. I’m sorry.”

It then appeared that Lively was forgiven and everyone moved on. But recently while doing press for It End With Us, she was slammed for the way she’s been promoting some of her other products.

Lively’s movie depicts domestic violence and while Baldoni has been speaking about the heavy subject matter and hoping his film can “help someone,” Lively has taken a totally different route.

The star is drawing negative reactions on TikTok and X for her cheery approach telling fans to “grab your friends and your florals” and go see the movie that features domestic abuse. Lively is also catching slack for promoting her husband’s superhero comedy Deadpool & Wolverine and her own hair care line, Blake Brown, while discussing It End With Us.

Social media users aren’t letting her off the hook. Forbes described this as Lively’s “J.Lo moment” referring to the criticism Lopez got when talking about her childhood growing up in the Bronx in the film This is Me … Now: A Love Story. And former Real Housewife Bethenny Frankel even drew comparisons between the two women for their promotional style.

In an Instagram video, Frankel said: “Celebrities have now reached a fever pitch of trying to triple-and quadruple-dip in monetizing businesses other than their core business. It’s become a common practice to try to really bum-rush and smash and grab as much as you possibly can at the same time.

“So if she’s dressed and in hair and makeup doing press tour for a movie, leaving her family and kids and so is he [Ryan Reynolds], she is going to maximize it … this was an issue with Jennifer Lopez … marketing two movies, her drink, her relationship [with Ben Affleck], an album and a tour … Her audience got waterboarded and didn’t want it … I don’t believe in pile on cancelation. I believe in learning from our own and other people’s blind spots and mistakes.”

While the criticism Lively is receiving online for what she said in recent interviews is growing, one of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actor’s past interviews for another film has come back to haunt her as well [click here to view].

But a few people are stepping in to defend her as one commenter on X wrote: “It feels like the internet constantly needs a new target for hate every few months, and it’s often directed at women. It’s really sad how quickly people jump on the bandwagon without substantial information, creating drama over situations.”

And although we’re not entirely sure what next for Lopez or how her story will turn out after she filed for divorce from Affleck, Lively should have a softer landing. That’s because Lopez’s This Is Me … Now: A Love Story album and musical drama flopped, but It Ends With Us has done incredibly well at the box office surpassing $100 million in its first week alone.

Also, Lively is best friends with Taylor Swift. So if things got too bad the best thing for Lively would be to parade around New York City with her extremely popular bestie once she gets back to the States following The Eras Tour. And Swifties everywhere will most likely back her.
