Blake Lively Fans Say She Edited a Photo Celebrating Husband Ryan Reynolds’ First Time Voting
Though he’s been an adult for many years, actor Ryan Reynolds celebrated an occasion often reserved for teenagers — he voted in a U.S. presidential election for the first time in 2020. His wife, actor Blake Lively, marked the moment with an Instagram post, but her followers were surprised to find she edited her photo. Here’s what happened.

Lively and Reynolds met on the set of the 2011 DC superhero film, Green Lantern. While Reynolds played the titular hero, Hal Jordan, Lively portrayed Carol Ferris, his childhood friend (and love interest). The pair did months of press together as friends, officially announcing their relationship months after it premiered.
Reynolds and Lively were engaged soon after. They married in 2012 on a plantation in South Carolina (a decision they admitted in 2020 that they regret?). Together, the couple has three children: James (born in 2014), Inez (born in 2016), and a third daughter born in 2019, whose name many believe to be Betty.
Reynolds was born in Canada, while Lively is from the U.S.
Reynolds is a native of Vancouver, British Columbia. He starred in such Canadian series as teen soap opera Fifteen and fantasy children’s program The Odyssey in Canada before making his way into U.S. productions. He broke out with his roles in the sitcom Two Guys and a Girl and the comedy film National Lampoon’s Van Wilder.
Lively, meanwhile, was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. She’s the daughter of actor Ernie Lively. Her older sister, Robyn Lively, is also an actor, known for the movie Teen Witch. Lively began acting as a teenager, starring in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants film franchise while still in high school.
Reynolds voted in a U.S. election for the first time in 2020
In the months leading up to the 2020 U.S. presidential election, many celebrities have shared their plans to vote, prompting their followers to vote early or vote by mail due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Reynolds became a dual citizen this year, allowing him to participate in a U.S. election, and he joined in encouraging others to vote.
“This is my first time voting in America,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. He turned it into a joke, likening the experience to having sex for the first time. “I’d like to thank my wife Blake for making my first time so gentle and loving. It was super scary at first, then exciting and now I’m a little tired. But proud.”
Lively shared a similar photo but made 1 small change
Lively also shared a photo of the two stars, making the same joke. “It was Ryan’s first time,” she wrote. “He was understandably scared. It all happened so fast. Like, REALLY fast. He wept. I pretended to weep. Then he called all his friend.” But followers noticed a difference between the two photos.
“It’s the drawn on heels for me,” wrote one follower. Indeed, the two photos are nearly identical, only in Reynold’s, Lively is barefoot, standing on her toes, while in her post, she looks to be wearing strappy high heels. But the shoes didn’t fool her fans. “Look at her feet she’s drawn on the heels,” wrote another, adding, “I love Blake so much.”
